Stat of the Day: 17th April 2012

Another close, but no cigar day yesterday as Falkland successfully chased down the race leader, only to be beaten on his inside by a neck. We didn’t win the race, but we did manage to beat the market again: our advised 11/8 dissipated into 4/6 at the off!

Today we’re turning our attention towards the Nottinghamshire Fibresand for an 11-furlong, Class 6 Handicap for 4yr olds and over. Nine runners are due to take to the track for the…

4.40 Southwell

Trainer Alastair Lidderdale is getting the best out of his string recently with a win strike rate of 23% over the last month, including two very good priced winners in the past few days (16/1 & 12/1!). He can also boast an overall level stakes profit of 52% from 38 races at this age group at the Southwell track at S.P. Thus it is of note that he has just one runner venturing out onto the course today. That mount is Ostentation and this horse has already tasted victory at this course, so he shouldn’t have any problems with the surface. He won his penultimate race over at Lingfield almost 3 weeks ago and ran well at Musselburgh last time out, but that race was an additional 3 furlongs to today’s distance and he was found out in the stamina department that day.

A drop back in distance will definitely be of benefit and it’s interesting to note that he runs today a full 8lbs lower than when he finished 3rd over course & distance last December, finishing less than 3 lengths from the winner that day. Today looks like a good opportunity for Ostentation to get back to winning ways and the 11/4 BOG on offer early from Bet365 seems very fair to me, but you can (as always!) …

    • Hi Patrick. I’ll be taking a look at Punchestown, but I have nowhere near the same handle on Irish form, alas. And I’ll be over there on the Wednesday, which will make life difficult. But I’ll certainly have some thoughts on at least some of the races.

      Best Regards,
      Matt

    • Hi Glyn

We’re not a tipping site generally, but I do go through the cards for most of the big meetings.

And either Chris or I dig out one interesting stat – which has led to plenty of winners – each day on Stat of the Day.

      Best,
      Matt

  4. Your limited handle on Irish form still a great read. Look fwd to your observations. Really liked your take on the National.
