Stat of the Day: 7th May 2012
From the ridiculous to the sublime this weekend, as I managed to pick a 6/4 (sent off 2/1) on Saturday which finished last of five, and then a 12/1 (sent off 13/2) which finished first of five!
It’s another big priced speculative this afternoon, in the…
We all know that Alan King is a man to follow on the jumps scene, but did you know that he’s also pretty lethal on the flat? In fact, blindly backing his turf flat runners between 10/1 and 20/1 would have yielded a very small each way profit. Backing them on Betfair would also have been profitable.
At Windsor, a fairly local track for King, he does well. Indeed, his figures are six from 31 for a 36.5 unit profit.
Today, he runs the top weight, Balerina, in a soft ground mile and a half handicap. She’s top weight for a reason – because she won a Listed race in France as a 2yo!
There are plenty of ‘potential’ horses in this field, including Roger Varian’s Kuda Huraa. But that one beat nothing in a Wolves maiden last time, and has to prove his liking for the ground as well.
Balerina, meanwhile, has won over 2m6f on soft over hurdles, so ground and stamina are not an issue. She also lugged 11-01 there in a handicap, so weight ought not to be an issue either.
In a race where not too many of them are certain to enjoy the ground, Balerina is worth a small each way tickle at 16/1, best odds guaranteed.
