Trainer Casey makes it big on you Tube

When Mick Fitzgerald won the Grand National in 1996 on board Rough Quest his immediate reaction on BBC television is one of those racing quotes that will never be forgotten. He said, “Winning the Grand National is better than sex. This was the best 12 minutes of my life. Sex is an anti-climax after this!”

Not surprisingly, Fitzgerald used some of those words, “better than sex” as the title of his autobiography.

On Sunday, Tracey Piggott’s interview with veteran Irish trainer Peter Casey took things a little further. Casey had just seen his Flemenstar win the Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown to give him his first ever Grade One winner. Piggott caught up with him for RTE as he was making his way down to the track to lead his horse back to the winner’s enclosure.

After congratulating him on his success, Piggott’s first question laid herself open to a response which has made Casey a star on you Tube ever since.

TP: How does that feel?

PC: Jesus it’s unreal, I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it. I’ll have f***ing sex tonight and everything and I’m going away for a week.

TP: You can’t say that on telly. I’m going to get in terrible trouble after that one.

Piggott moved swiftly on, doing all she could to focus Casey on the performance of his horse, before handing over to her studio presenter, whose opening comment was “Apologies for a very excited trainer.”
