£400k unclaimed on Scoop6. Is it yours?

Whenever I have a bet I check to see whether I have won or not. Don’t we all? Well, it seems not, as there’s one Betfred customer with a £2 ticket for the Scoop6 who has yet to collect nearly £400,000.

There’s every possibility that the individual doesn’t know he has won. If any of the horses selected on the betting slip last Saturday was a non-runner, then the selection will have been transferred to the favourite in the race concerned. And with 18 non-runners across last weekend’s Scoop6 races that’s exactly what happened, as Angels Will Fall and Trojan Rocket were both substitute winning favourites .

The bet was placed in the Adelaide Terrace shop in Benwell, Newcastle, and ironically the bonus race tomorrow is planned to be the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate, run at Newcastle, although that’s very much dependant on the weather, with today’s card there already abandoned. The ticket holder has until 2.00pm tomorrow to come forward and register for the chance to add a further £251,996 to their winnings.

Betfred and Totepool chairman was clearly surprised no-one has come forward to claim their winnings when he said, “Usually punters are banging my doors down to collect their winnings and I’m really worried our Scoop6 winners may not actually know they have won. I urge anyone who played the Scoop6 in the Newcastle area last weekend to check their tickets just in case they are sitting on a massive windfall – especially as they only spent £2 on the bet.”

Examination of the CCTV footage shows the ticket belongs to a long haired woman in her twenties, but staff do not recognise her, so it seems probable that she is not a regular customer.

The most likely scenario is that she is not simply unaware that they have won, but has most likely thrown away the winning ticket. After all, who keeps losing bet slips?
