Serenity Now ran well in defeat at Hexham yesterday, but I set the bar higher than that, so let’s hope we can find a winner from today’s shortlist, which is…
Newmarket 3.30 Esoterique
Ascot 3.10 Eastern Impact
Longchamp 3.15 French Navy
Esoterique is hard not to like. Andre Fabre feels she will be better on good ground, although whether she wants it quite as fast as this is debatable, but she’s clearly the one to beat.
Eastern Impact probably had excuses in Haydock’s Sprint Cup last time and ran an absolute blinder in the July Cup here three starts back, winning at Chester in between. This is almost certainly her level and it’s only the fact that Richard Fahey has now gone 35 runners without a winner that puts me off. Should he fire one in in any of the races in which he has a runner prior to this – take note.
French Navy has been laid out for this race since the spring and Charlie Appleby is very bullish about his chance today. If he can translate Group 3 form to this higher level (2 lbs clear on RPR) he could prove hard to beat.
I’m going for…
Longchamp 3.15 FRENCH NAVY
…as my best of the day. And I’ll even risk a 1 pt recommended bet.
