Almela was no match for Endless Time at Naas yesterday but ran a fair race in defeat all the same.
On to today’s shortlist, which is…
Pontefract 3.40 Beast Mode
Windsor 2.50 Primitivo
Plumpton 3.00 Dancing Dik
Beast Mode was far from disgraced when 5th in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last time and has obvious claims now that he drops down into Listed company, providing he can translate that form on today’s good-to-soft ground.
Primitivo shaped well in a Nottingham nursery last time, but that was over 10f, and I’m not convinced that this step back to a sharp 1m will play to his strengths.
Dancing Dik won over C&D under a feather weight last time when making all. Needs to establish an uncontested lead to be seen at his best, which seems unlikely here with Killabraher Cross lining up against him.
Dancing Dik could well bolt up today if the race is run to suit at Plumpton, but it is a big if, so for my best of the day I’m going for…
Pontefract 3.40 BEAST MODE
…who I’ll put up as a highlighted horse as opposed to a 1 pt recommended bet as he’s unproven on the ground, and likewise on the track, which can find some animals out. He looks fair value though at 11-4 BOG.
