I said yesterday that David Wachman’s horses are currently in the habit of placing and not winning, which unfortunately was the case again with Legatissimo at Keeneland last night, where Ryan Moore’s mount was always playing second fiddle to Stephanie’s Kitten on the run -in.
Today’s shortlist is…
Saint Cloud 12.55 Donjuan Triumphant
Cork 1.55 Altiepix
Naas 1.40 Alelchi Inois
Donjuan Triumphant hasn’t stopped progressing in recent weeks and is well worth a shot in Group 1 company. However, his victory at Maisons-Laffitte was in a weakish Group 2, and all his wins to date have come on galloping tracks.
Altiepix also appears to be progressing. He has more on his plate here than when second in a Galway novice hurdle last time, in a race that revolves around the wellbeing of Goonyella. He also appears best when relatively fresh.
Alelchi Inois ran up a five timer as a novice and is not without a chance here despite Sizing Granite lining up against him. Ran well in Grade 2 Novice Chase at Gowran Park last time and shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the step back in trip as he’s won over the minimum trip twice.
I’m going for…
Naas 1.40 ALELCHI INOIS
…as my best of the day in the hope he can upset the odds-on favourite Sizing Granite. That’s no small task however, so I’ll put him up as a highlighted horse as opposed to a 1 pt recommended bet.
