FGR – Best Of The Day
Only an optimist would start a betting project on Friday the 13th, but hey-hoe, here we go – I’ve got my cross and holy water!
Today’s feature on the opening day of Cheltenham’s Open Meeting is the Grade 2 Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle, which also figures on today’s shortlist, which is…
Cheltenham 1.40 As De Mee
Cheltenham 2.15 Penglai Pavilion
Lingfield 1.30 Ajadaat
As De Mee needed the run when second on chasing debut in a similar race at Chepstow last time and will almost certainly come on for the run here. Arguably better going right-handed though and further rain wouldn’t go amiss either.
Penglai Pavilion is unbeaten in three starts over hurdles to date and won impresively over C&D last time, and having won on the heavy in his native France shouldn’t be inconvenienced by any further rain here.
Ajadaat can take time to get going and ideally needs a strong pace to aim at. Promises to stay today’s 10f and should be there or thereabouts given her overall consistency.
All three of these could win, but I’ve decided to side with…
Cheltenham 2.15 PENGLAI PAVILION @ 5-4 BOG
…as he is rated Cheltenham festival material by his shrewd tainer and he could prove very hard to beat here.
