FGR – Best Of The Day

Snapping Turtle ran well in defeat at Wetherby yesterday, rallying when headed, and not going down without a fight. If they all run as well as that we’re going to be ok.
Today’s highlight is the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham (2.40), where if it wasn’t for the fact that the John Ferguson yard appears to have hit a flat spot, I’d be very keen on his Nabucco completing the four-timer. He may best be backed for a place (3.7 on the exchanges), but if Ferguson’s Maputo wins the first – take note.
On the other side of the Irish sea Willie Mullins’ Faugheen makes his long awaited reappearance in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown (2.15), but given his prohibitive odds, this is strictly a watching brief.
Today’s shortlist is made up of three very promising novice chasers, being…

Punchestown 1.05 Lord Scoundrel
Punchestown 1.40 Killer Miller
Cheltenham 1.35 Garde La Victoire

Lord Scoundrel has won all his three starts over fences to date. The concern is he’s coming back in trip in a higher class of race, so he may just get done for toe.

Killer Miller travelled well when scoring at the first time of asking over fences at Naas last time. Has conditions to suit and hails from a yard in fine form, but is making a quick reappearance here.

Garde La Victoire was a high class hurdler (won the Greatwood here last season) and has always promised to make an even better chaser. Delighted connections when scoring first time up over Uttoxeter and is considered potential Arkle material.

All three of these could win, but I’m going for…

Cheltenham 1.30 GARDE LA VICTOIRE…

who has unfortunately been forced odds-on with the field cutting up. I’ll be trying to sniff out some even money on the exchanges, but he can be backed at 5-6 BOG.
