FGR Preview – Betfair Chase
Haydock 3.00 Silviniaco Conti, Cue Card
Silviniaco Conti needed the run when 4l second in a Kempton handicap hurdle last time over an inadequate 2m5f. Won this race last year and also in 2012, and got the better of both Ballynagour and Holywell when gamely making all and winning the Betfair Bowl at Aintree back in May.
Cue Card also had Ballynagour and Holywell behind (as well as Dynaste) when winning the Charlie Hall at Wetherby first time up. Last seasons efforts can be excused due to a breathing problem, so he arrives here with solid claims having won the 2013 renewal of this race.
There’s very little to choose between these two on peak form. I’d be inclined to side with Cue Card as the form of his Charlie Chase win is solid, whereas Silvinianco Conti has to prove on the track that he’s back to his very best. But I’ll expand on this further tomorrow as Cue Card may well figure in my shortlist for my best bet of the day.
