FGR Preview – Fighting Fifth Hurdle (Saturday, November 28th, 2015)
Newcastle 2.05 Irving, Top Notch
Irving beat Top Notch in the Betfair Price Rush Hurdle at Haydock seven days ago when carrying our money. That was something of a muddling affair, but with Intense Tango likely to tow them along, Paul Nicholls’ charge is more likely to have the race run to suit and won the corresponding race last year.
Top Notch rattled up a five timer as a juvenile before running a neck second to Peace And Co in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Is entitled to come for that Haydock run behind Irving already mentioned and is a serious player.
Irving has the edge on proven ability having won this race last year, but it’s no given that he will confirm the form with the Henderson runner, with that one likely to improve from his seasonal debut effort. I’ll expand on this further tomorrow as it may well figure in my best of the day post.
