FGR – Best Of The Day
You won’t get a better example of a ‘flesh and blood’ bet than Irving yesterday, as the horse was proven in every respect going into the race, yet finished 40l behind a horse that he beat just 7 days earlier. Although a mistake four from home didn’t help his cause, the race almost certainly came too soon and we just have to accept the fact.
Today’s shortlist is made up of…
Fairyhouse 1.10 Bachasson6
Fairyhouse 2.40 Monksland
Carlisle 2.50 Emily Gray
Bachasson remains unbeaten since joining Willie Mullins. A progressive gelding, the only question mark appears to be his ability to cope with very testing ground, but he did win on the soft in his native France and he’s a potentially smart prospect.
Monksland is hard to keep sound but that didn’t stop him winning on his chasing debut at Gowran Park last time. More is required here, but he has a level of form over hurdles which puts him in the mix, so he should run his race.
Emily Rose won a mares novice chase at Fontwell last time. Steps up into Listed company today in a race that revolves around Gitane Du Berlais who comes out well clear on official ratings. Needs 3m according to trainer Kim Bailey and David Bass is of the opinion that she may be better on good ground so she may not have her optimum conditions here.
I’ve decided to weigh in with…
Fairyhouse 1.10 BACHASSON @ 100-30 BOG
…as on the book he shouldn’t be three times the price of stablemate Long Dog, who is another potentially smart prospect. Paddy Power were a stand out 100-30 at the time of posting, and the meeting is also today’s MBS.
