Great job in keeping this thread rolling, Paul. It’s been a busy – and well subscribed – one!

Merry Christmas to everyone – enjoy!
Somewhat belated close down of the thread, which was an interesting watch for a few months.
Since last update:
-6.8 at BSP
A strike rate of 14% is insufficient for many, and the sample size is a bit too small upon which to meaningfully conjecture. But a profitable run is no mean feat, albeit at a probably unsustainable 34% ROI, and it will remain an angle to at least be aware of in 2018 when the flat turf season kicks in again.
Hopefully when work/time allows, we’ll see you back following this thread up. Interesting/promising start, and thanks a lot for contributing.
Hi Mr S, How is this going?
It’s been a challenging period in terms of the quality of the racing, and the going, and so on, but hopefully you’re still finding some good winners?
Good work, Inspector Paul!
Thanks for sharing the results. That’s a very promising start. Be interested in updates, though I wonder if it might be sensible to start a new thread to avoid confusion? Will leave that up to you.
Thanks again for sharing, and I hope things are still moving forwards.
Yes, a little bit more luck and just a couple of those 2nd’s would have won. In the short term, that’s the difference. Over the longer haul we’ll get a better feel. Will continue to track through the winter from a results perspective.
Good stuff, om0202. I will be especially interested in how 2) goes. I am not able to back test that yet, but have a fair degree of confidence that will be a solid angle.
Do keep us posted from time to time, if you’re happy to. And thanks for sharing.
Fairly bleak reading in this update, though that won’t come as a surprise to regulars on this thread.
Since last update:
8/65 (12.31% SR)
-34.02 (-52.34% ROI)
167/850 (19.65% SR)
+156.99 (18.47% ROI)
A couple of observations, which are anecdotal rather than data-driven:
a. All weather racing has not been kind to this approach
b. There has been a nasty bout of seconditis
c. Nursery handicaps appear an interesting exception to the recent disappointing run
Ouch. Got over a month to catch up on. Having got up to speed on most other matters now after a frantic spell, I’ll have this with you later on tonight.
Very late update here on the last day I’ll be tracking this…
Irish Flat Cappers 20/1shorter 13:35:00 Doncaster 19 Beach Bar (IRE) 7/1 OBrien, Richard John
Trainer well regarded, and one to look out for, regardless of how this lad goes today.
Good suggestion, guys, will add it to the list. (It’s a long list and we’re working on a big piece at the moment, so it’s not going to be imminent. But shouldn’t be too hard to squeeze in at some point)
Piedi Bianchi took too long to pick up, 5th
Ami’s Mesa broke my heart when chinned on the line, 2nd
Senga not good enough as far as I could see, U/P
Roy H, won well
Zelzal got a poor ride, should have placed but not won imo U/P
Ha, thank you gents. Very kind comments, which are much appreciated.
It IS a lot of work, but very much a labour of love. Really wanted Ami’s Mesa and/or Beach Patrol for the big bucks, but hey, we can’t have everything, can we?!
Thanks again for taking time to comment,
Matt (home, catching up and mucho jetlagged)
