Ask Jack set a persistent pace up front to make hard work for the other contenders as he streamed clear of the field in stunning manner. However, it was a hard slog for him after the fast early pace.

Ask Jack, who was defeated by a short-head in a worthy 7f handicap at last year's Galway Festival, utilised the favourable draw to his best advantage to win the €120,000 event.

Murphy said, "If he comes out of this okay, he will run over seven furlongs here on Saturday.

"This was the plan since last year when he finished second in a 7f handicap here. His high draw was absolutely vital - he really needed it over this trip."
