Geegeez Placepot

Geegeez Placepot

Really annoying last night, as the fat £768.60 dividend was there for the taking. Five out of six, but the race which caught us out - and most others - was a seven runner handicap, which is a classic placepot trap race. There are only two places available, and also they very often go a false tactical pace, meaning less fancied nags can steal a march - and a place - from the front.

Anyway, it's gone now, and we'll try a similar tack at Bath this afternoon, where all six races offer just two places, and a couple have scope to go win only!

2.15 - Leg 1: We're going to have to limp in here, in order to save some bullets for later. And I'm going to side on a banker basis with Zalzilah and Resist, who has been very highly tried since winning his maiden. He's run in two Listed races and a Class 2 affair, and has been beaten far enough. But two similar runs against Extortionist mean he should be fairly competitive in this Class 5 nursery.

He and Sunset Shore should lead here, and I'd be hopeful that Zalzilah can see it out.

Resist has been well backed, and in a race like this, that's enough to catch my eye. We have to be prepared for an early shower, though, if it goes against us here.

A - 1 (Zalzilah), 4 (Resist)

2.45 - Leg 2: Another five furlong sprint handicap, this time for older horses. It's the first of a number of tricky events, and the one I'm most drawn to (least of six evils!) is Waseem Faris, who is well suited by conditions, and has beaten most of these in recent starts.

With Powerful Wind and perhaps Best Be Careful going on, it might set up for Waseem. However, if the Wind gets it all his own way up front, he's capable of getting out and staying out.

Burning Thread and Best Be Careful can't be ruled out either, and we'll spread out here.

A - 4 (Waseem Faris), 5 (Powerful Wind)
B - 3 (Burning Thread), 6, (Best Be Careful)

3.15 - Leg  3: A bad race. In fact, it's a seller in all but name, and they're all thoroughly exposed piggies. The top of the market looks most likely, but still not very likely (!), and Mick Channon's Inffiraaj has bits of form to compete. Bold Cross is generally ridden from the back, and he's slow and old. He might never get close to the front of the race. Glens Wobbly is rated 45, and has had plenty of chances. He'll at least make a bid from the front with a load of dogs behind him, so he might be able to last out...

I'm taking three on A, and it's a prayer mat job. Honestly can't believe this isn't a seller.

A - 1 (Bold Cross), 2 (Inffiraaj), 4 (Glens Wobbly)

3.45 - Leg 4: Croquembouche and Paphos will take them along, and the latter is weak on a contested lead, so I favour the former, despite a step up in class. Of the chasers, African Oil may do best, and he joins Croque on A.

I'll add a bit of B'age with Evervescent, who has hurtled down the weights like a 'gone' horse. Let's hope he's not gone!

A - 2 (Croquembouche), 5 (African Oil)
B - 3 (Evervescent)

4.15 - Leg 5: A good little handicap at the intermediate five and a half furlong distance. My love for The Art Of Racing has proven expensive, and it may do so again here. But this trip might be ideal for him, and the form of his penultimate run has worked out well.

I'll double him up with Alcando, a track and trip specialist, who might try to make all - a pretty good tactic here.

Jillnextdoor is respected, dropping to a decent mark, and she sneaks onto B.

A - 3 (The Art Of Racing), 4 (Alcando)
B - 2 (Jillnextdoor)

4.45 - Leg 6: Ginzan is the one here. She's a proper track specialist and ran a cracker last time behind the well handicapped Asian Trader. I'll shore her up with Maria Montez who is almost certain to lead, and could last out.

A - 1 (Gilzan), 4 (Maria Montez)

Just A's - 2 x 2 x 3 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 96 bets

All picks - 2 x 4 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 2 = 432 bets

Near but no cigar ! Dropped Burning Thread for a friend’s B.B.C. – wrong !!!

So frustrating today. Would have been a nice little payout. Non-runner went win only, AND we had the outsider who was beaten a neck…

      Tomorrow…
