The pick of the week's racing news

Best of the Rest…1st March 2016

This week's digest of the pick of the other racing sites has the Cheltenham Festival as its unsurprising focus, and in particular a trio of 'stable tour' pieces where, amidst the cliché and platitudes lurk occasional gems of insight.

Messrs Mullins, Nicholls and Henderson will run most of 200 horses between them at the Festival, so it's worth checking in with some of their top fancies as well as a darker equine or two.

Old Hendo might be more interesting to listen to this year than most on the basis that his stable seems to have been almost overlooked in the run up to Cheltenham. His record at the March Festival bears the closest scrutiny and his horses could offer a glimmer of value this time around.

Here's what he had to say about the team from Seven Barrows.

geegeezNEW: Daily Placepot Perm
Today, 1st March, is the first day that Mal Boyle's daily placepot analysis includes a suggested permutation. He's waded through the card at Leicester in search of six placed horses and a nice payout at a meeting that has historically rewarded successful players.

His fancies are here.

SportingLife logoGraham Cunningham's Pick 6
GC is back for a second week with more pithy opinions on the state of the racing game. This time he covers such as Aidan Coleman, the 'which race will they run in?' Festival conundrum, and ABP, amongst other things.

Pick 6 is here.

IrishRacing.comBrian O'Connor's Weekly Blog
A fairly divisive writer, if the times I've read his blog are anything to go by, Brian O'Connor is worth a read as far for a good argument as anything else. This week he's on safer ground than normal, covering off a few universal pre-CheltFest irritants which are likely to have you nodding in accord... for the most part at least!

Brian's scribbles are here.

That's all for this week. Best of the Rest will be back again next Tuesday. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for additions to the roster, do let us know by leaving a comment below.
