Aurore D’Estruval stormed to victory at Wetherby last Saturday for trainer John Quinn. The four-year-old filly looks set to have a successful winter, with the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle a possible target.
The horse was purchased from Guillaume Macaire in France by bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley on behalf of owner Carl Hinchy. Bromley is part of Highflyer Bloodstock, who specialise in sourcing the very best equine talent for owners and trainers.
Very much born into the industry, Anthony is the son of Bill Bromley who up until his retirement in 2012 owned the Wood Farm Stud in Shropshire. The stud is now run by another famous racing family after Phillip Hemmings, son of owner Trevor, took charge.
Anthony joined David Minton Bloodstock in 1987 and they established Highflyer Bloodstock in 2001. Having worked together for over 25 years in the horseracing industry, they provide their clients with a meticulous insight into all aspects of the thoroughbred world. They are joined by Tessa Greatrex, who has already made a name for herself as an up and coming bloodstock agent, purchasing the likes of Deputy Dan and Puffin Billy.
Not only do they find a racehorse for customers but they can give advice on a suitable trainer that matches the needs of both owner and horse. And their purchases head to the best trainers in the sport. Paul Nicholls has dealt with Highflyer for many years. Nicky Henderson is another that has trained some of the greats, sourced by Highflyer Bloodstock, and says: “The Minty/Bromley partnership is the ultimate in bloodstock services. Advice on buying and selling is always of the highest quality.”
Over the years their high-profile successes have been numerous. They have purchased Grand National winners, Ballabriggs, Hedgehunter and Neptune Collonges. Jump racing royalty such as Kauto Star, Big Buck’s and the incredible two-mile chaser Sprinter Sacre have all been discovered. An incredible 23 Grade 1 winners at the last six Cheltenham Festivals have gone through their books.
There’s little doubt that Bromley’s knowledge of French racing has been at the forefront of his success. Champion trainer Paul Nicholls in particular has gained enormously from Anthony’s trips over the English Channel. Those French imports are now finding their way to numerous stables around the country. John Quinn could have another future star on his hands with L’Aigle Royal arriving from the same source as Aurore D’Estruval.
As well as purchasing the best equine talent around, they are also the brains behind the hugely successful Million in Mind Partnership. Members sign up for a season, paying an annual fee that covers all expenses and gives them a ‘real feel’ of racehorse ownership. Voy Por Ustedes, Tricky Trickster and Uxizandre, have all been part of the team in recent times.
Great trainers and jockeys are the most visible part of the horse racing industry. But loyal owners, supported by incredibly knowledgeable bloodstock agents, provide the ammunition which allows the likes of Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson to fire in those sensational winners.
