Brighton Mile Excites with Dead Heat

Licence To Till and Lastkingofscotland battled it out bravely in an action packed finish to the John Smith's Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy, with the judge not able to set the duo apart in the feature event on the first day of the Brighton August Festival.

The contest was ferocious with the lead swapping several times during the event, even though they were competing for half of last year's prize-money.

Lastkingofscotland, trained by Conor Dore, had moved into a short lead on the stand side rail as the field entered the last furlong, while challenging up the middle of the course was Licence To Till, trained by Mark Johnston, who won the event last year.

Kieren Fallon on mount Licence To Till and Hayley Turner riding Lastkingofscotland gave it their all in the last couple of yards and as they went over the line they were inseparable.

They then suffered through an anxious delay before the dead-heat was confirmed with Musical Script placing third, followed by track specialist Ocean Countess in fourth place.

Both winning jockeys were stunned by the outcome with Kieren Fallon stating, "I thought I'd won but I knew she was coming back to me" and Hayley Turner saying "I though I was beat!".

Jockey Dore was happy with the outcome and commented, "Not bad for a selling plater! He's a very versatile horse and I'll probably have to run him back quickly as he's clear of the third."
