Impressing well in his hurdling debut, Champion Court, with jockey Warren Marston aboard, opened his account with a comfortable victory in the Grade Two Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham on Sunday.
The Martin Keighley trained Irish bumper victor was held up in the rear early on, making a couple of errors over two flights, but travelled well to get to the front before the last, staying on strongly for an easy seven length victory over Sybarite, with Mount Helicon in third place just a neck further behind.
"It was a big ask coming here and we wanted him to have an educational run, with everything else being a bonus," said winning trainer Keighley.
"He's got a serious engine and there should be loads more to come. I think he'll step up to three miles now and the Albert Bartlett has to be the main aim."
