It was a deja vu kind of day yesterday. Just like Sunday, we had a winner and a runner-up. But in all honesty, we weren't even close to landing our double. Longton may well have finished second to Stars Over The Sea, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The race was really a procession for the winner, who could have won by much further than three lengths if he'd wanted to.
It was a similar story in race 2, with our selection Djinni romping home at 5/4 (we took 11/8), She won by over three lengths after being eased right down in the final furlong. One to watch, perhaps?
None of which, though, brought any returns for us. Two more to crack at today, starting with the...
If Idyllic Star turns up in the right mood, she wins here. An easy 8-lengths winner last week at Hamilton, she arrives here off the same mark, as that win was in an apprentices race attracting no penalty. Jason Hart retains the ride and although this race is tougher on paper, any repeat of last week's run will be enough. No riches to be found here, but at evens or thereabouts, we should at least be doubling our money available for the...
A record of 2211 over hurdles since switching to Sean Curran's yard, My Lucky Flame seeks to complete the hat trick this evening. Both wins have come over 2m 7f and she was 2nd on her only attempt at today's slightly longer 3m trip. Mikey Hamill's on board today with a very useful 10lb claim helping to reduce what looked a pretty fair opening handicap mark anyway. The former C&D winner from the McCain yard is likely to be the biggest danger, but I can see My Lucky Flame running away with this, which explains why she's around the 6/4 mark.
