Firstly yesterday Our Man Zebo was a non-runner meaning that all our eggs were in one basket with Catalinas Diamond and here I have to hold my hands up to a bit of a cock-up. I wrongly expected her to be able to take her recent A/W form onto the hard turf track next door. Many of you probably thought I was a bit mad to do so, as did the market. She drifted out from my 8/1 to a whopping 14/1 and then showed us why. A six lengths defeat back in 6th (nearly 5 lengths away from the places), she never got to the pace of the race and as a result was never in contention.

Like I said, a bad choice/misread from me, but I aim to correct that today starting with the...

4.40 Nottingham

Chocala ended last season with a decent second to Mister Impatience, who won again since and has also gone on to compete in Listed/Group 3 company. Our selection showed signs of improvement when finishing 5th on his seasonal reappearance / handicap debut at York 12 days ago and not only is he expected to come on for hat run, he is dropping down a grade today. All being well, the current 6/1 on offer looks like decent value after the early withdrawal of the 3/1 favourite.

5.00 Cartmel

A fairly open contest, but my preference is for Mount Welcome, he comes in good heart/form, having won a chase at the first time of asking 4 weeks ago and following it up with a decent 3rd place just nine days later. Roll on almost three weeks and he reappears back over hurdles where a mark of 82 means he could be well in, having previously finished second over hurdles off 92 and those two recent chase runs were off marks of 87 and 94. On the base of that, I'm happy to take 6/1 here.

The double pays 48/1 today and the place part is priced at over 9/2 (4.72/1), both with Bet365 (BOG, of course!).

Back Chocala and Mount Welcome in an each way double with Bet365, the win part paying 48/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)

That was sickening! I laid MW in running at 1.24 but small compensation for not getting a winning double…and ran out of a place just to rub salt in the wounds. Unlucky Chris, it’s coming…

Ran too keen early doors, then ran wide, but looked nailed on 2f out.
Had absolutely nothing late on and just bottomed out. Gutted.
