Close yesterday, though in the end perhaps not that close. Leg one, Humbie, won nicely at 5/2 having been recommended at 9/2, which meant we had a nice bit rolling on to Jean de Florette. Well, his odds drifted as though a leg had fallen off, and confidence took a pre-race battering. Luckily, Jean ran on well to be second and land a 3.37/1 place double.

Today, we'll try again with the...

4.10 Towcester

The favourite, Mister Todd, has had a fair few chances now and, whilst he looks the most likely winner, there are reasons to oppose him, not least of which is that there are two other places to go at. It looks a two horse race for the places, and I slightly favour the Twiston-Davies runner, Count Guido Deiro, named after a famous vaudeville star of the early 20th century. This chap has only had the one run out of points, a second place in a Class 4 maiden hurdle. This is a Class 5 race, which means he's taking a drop in class, and he should at least make the frame, and has a fair chance to win.

We'll couple him with one in the...

4.35 Plumpton

Another lop-sided book, with a stronger looking favourite here in Looking On. But our choice, Titus Mills, was rated as much as two and a half stone better on the flat at one point. Now, it's true, Titus may be a tad regressive since then, but he - like the jolly - has had just the one run and finished a sticking on third there. He was ridden like a non-stayer, which he might be, but he's got bags of class in the context of a race like this, and will improve for the experience.

The win double pays 35/1 with Stan James, and that's best odds guaranteed too. The place double pays 3/1 and looks pretty probable.

Back Count Guido Deiro and Titus Mills in an each way double with Stan James with the win part paying 35/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
