Daily Dabble, 4th June 2013
Apologies for the delay in getting this to you this morning (it is still morning, just!), but the workmen digging up the road outside thought it would be a great idea to cut a power cable. Anything for a rest in the sunshine, eh?
Anyway, full power has now been restored and before today's selections, a quick review of yesterday's picks. Sofias Number One was always a speculative pick and he failed to transfer his A/W form to the turf, trooping home 8th of the 12 runners: 5 lengths off the money and a further 3 off the winner. This, of course, meant the double was down, but Tawseef didn't know that and ran himself into a very creditable 3rd place at 5/1 (we'd taken 7's there). He was just a neck behind the runner-up and beaten by less than 2 lengths overall.
Two solid consistent types are under the spotlight today, as I look to get back to winning ways starting with the...
Despite only winning one of his last ten races, Black Truffle is a very consistent sort, making the frame on no less than seven occasions in this 10-race run, finishing 3633341225. That win came four races ago over today's course and distance and although he runs off a career high mark of 55, which is 6lbs higher than that C&D win, it is the same as his last two outings and he was only narrowly beaten 2 starts ago. That race was the third in a row where he had worn a visor (finishes of 122), but the visor was inexplicably omitted last time out. It is expected that a return to 7f and the reapplication of the headgear should get him running well again today and the current odds of up to 10/1 look very appealing.
John Quinn has a 22% strike rate this season with horses coming back from a break of over 2 months and runs Red Tyke here today after a rest of just under 11 weeks. This 4 yr old is a tough, battling consistent horse who has won 4 from 9 in the last year (215111345), including a couple of wins over hurdles, proving that stamina won't be an issue today. His best form has admittedly come on softer ground, but the booking of a better jockey than last time, the fitting of cheekpieces and the bare fact that this isn't a good race means that he's got a great chance of taking this at 5/1 and he does have a win under his belt on good ground too.
The double pays 65/1 today and the place part is priced at just under 7/1 (6.875/1), both with BetVictor (BOG, of course!).
Back Black Truffle and Red Tyke in an each way double with BetVictor, the win part paying 65/1 (Best Odds Guaranteed)
