Class 2 nineteen furlong handicap hurdle scheduled for 2.05: ‘Team Pipe’ have secured three of the nine renewals to date.  Two favourites have prevailed thus far whilst five of the last six gold medallists were burdened with a maximum weight of 11-3.  Five of the last seven winners have scored in double figures (between 11/1 & 14/1).

‘Celebration Chase’ scheduled for 2.40: Paul Nicholls (Sanctuaire & Toubab declared earlier in the week) has won three of the last five renewals though just one favourite has obliged during the last decade.  That said, all ten winners were returned in single figures.

‘Gordon Richards Stakes’ scheduled for 3.15: Four-year-olds lead the and five-year-olds 5-4 over the last eleven years during which time, two clear and one joint favourite have prevailed.  The last seven winners have scored at odds of 5/1 or less, though only four of the thirteen favourites during the study period secured toteplacepot positions.  Sir Michael Stoute has won three of the last four renewals in which he saddled runners, with Michael only having declared Eagles Peak at the five day stage this time around.  Ryan Moore was already ’jocked aboard’ at time of writing, the only one of twelve potential runners with a rider already ‘in the plate’.

Class 3 Gold Cup Chase scheduled for 3.50: Five of the last six winners carried weights of 10-13 or less whilst eight-year-olds have secured four of the last nine contests.

Class 3 three-year-old handicap scheduled for 4.25: Mark Johnston was responsible for five of the twenty three penultimate stage acceptors this week, Mark having saddled a couple of winners during the last eight years.  Four-year-olds have won three of the last four contests.

Class 2 one mile handicap scheduled for 4.55: Four-year-olds lead the five-year-olds 6-4 during the last eleven years.  The booking of Tom Queally for last year’s winner Weapon Of Choice (already ‘jocked up’ at the time of writing) is interesting as Sir Michael Stoute (who Tom rides for on a regular basis) has saddled a couple of winners in this race in recent years but the trainer was not represented at the five day stage.
