Three-year-old seven furlong handicap scheduled for 1.30:  This is a nice touch from Coral as the race is in memory of Malcolm Palmer who died earlier this year.  I had the pleasure of working with Malcolm when I was an Odds Compiler for the firm back in the nineties and you could not wish to meet a nicer man.  Five favourites have won this event during the last decade which is a great ratio in this sector of the sport.  Richard Hannon has saddled three of the last seven winners and the trainer held six options for this year’s event at the time of writing.  Five of the last six winners have carried 8-13 or less.

‘Coral Challenge’ scheduled for 2.40: Four-year-olds have secured six of the last seven renewals, whilst last year’s successful (2/1) favourite brought an end to a run of gold medallists which were returned at 33/1-18/1--11/1-10/1-7/1 since the previous (7/2) market leader obliged back in 2006.  Five of the last seven winners have carried a minimum weight of nine stones.

‘Distaff’ event scheduled for 3.15: Four favourites have won during the last decade during which time, nine winners have scored at a top price of 9/1.  Sir Michael Stoute saddled three winners during the study period and his only entry on Monday was his recent impressive Goodwood (debut) winner Integral.

‘Coral Eclipse’ scheduled for 3.45: Aidan O’Brien has saddled four winners during the last eleven years and his three representatives on Monday were (arguably) headed up by the recent ‘Queen Anne’ winner Declaration Of War, especially with Camelot having failed to reproduce his true form as a four-year-old thus far.  Favourites have won three of the last four renewals before which time, six renewals had slipped by without a successful market leader having been registered.  Nine favourites have secured toteplacepot positions during the last eleven years.

Two mile event due to be contested at 4.25: Last year’s successful 3/1 favourite was the first market leader to prevail since 2004.  That said, nine of the last ten winners have scored at a top price of 8/1.  Five of the last ten favourites have secured toteplacepot positions, statistics which include three winners.

Class 4 ten furlong handicap scheduled for 5.00: Just one favourite has obliged during the eleven year study period during which time, gold medallists at 33/1-20/1-16/1-12/1 have been recorded.  Six of the last eight winners carried a maximum weight of nine stones.
