Double Dutch, 14th February 2015

After three winning days on the bounce, it went spectacularly wrong yesterday, as we'd a non-runner and no winners from our three remaining selections!

3rd and 4th were the best we could manage in race 1, as we finally got the drifting prices we'd been waiting for, Unfortunately, the money was proven correct and our horses were beaten by 5.25 and 6.75 lengths respectively.

This rendered race 2 largely irrelevant and when Quill Art was withdrawn for refusing to enter the stalls, we were left with just one chance of a win, but Light Wave was headed in the final 100 yards and we had to settle for second best, beaten by a length.

Friday's results were as follows:

Seek The Fair Land : 3rd at 11/4 (adv 7/4)
Jubilee Brig : 4th at 2/1 (adv 2/1)
------------------------------------------
Light Wave : 2nd at 2/1 (adv 6/4)
Quill Art : WD at 5/2 (adv 6/4)

Results to date:
488 winning selections from 1710 = 28.54%
152 winning bets in 443 days = 34.31%

Stakes: 885.50pts
Returns: 983.24pts

P/L : +97.74pts (+11.04% ROI)

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

It'd be nice to round off a decent week with another win, so I'll be tackling the following for Saturday...

2.40 Ascot:

A better quality race than I normally tackle for DD, but one that looks (on paper, at least!) to be  largely down to two main rivals.

Carol's Destrier is the obvious starting point having started life well as a chaser last year, going down by a neck first time out at Ffos Las and then winning a 3-miler at Exeter. He returned from a wind op to finish a very creditable fourth at Cheltenham three weeks ago over 2m 5f in a race that was clearly too quick for him. The benefit of having had the run allied to the step back up to three miles today should make him a very realistic contender at 2/1 BOG.

He will, however, have to overcome a very real threat from Clondaw Knight, a horse proven over fences, who goes well on soft ground and gets today's trip readily. Three wins from seven starts over fences and never outside the first three home, he sets the form standard here and with all three of wins coming under today's jockey, he's a decent prospect at 7/2 BOG. 4.00 Haydock:

Harry Fry's handicappers always give you a good run for your money and he runs the in-form Fletchers Flyer here today. A runner-up and then a winner in two bumpers followed by finishes of 311 over hurdles show that this one is coming along nicely. He ahs won on both soft and heavy ground and despite never tacking 3 miles before, looked to have plenty in hand when winning both starts at 2m6f .

Fletchers Flyer did however win a 3m Irish PTP at Kilworth on soft/heavy ground prior to racing in the UK and looks to have every chance here at 2/1 BOG (Betfred), but he'll have to be on his game to beat Ballagh, who was doing all his best work late on when beaten by three parts of a length behind Three Musketeers last out, just failing to overhaul the winner.

That was 2m5f in a grade 2 and this is  fair drop in class for him today. If he's got the same left in him after 2m5f today, then expect him to finish the 3 miles very strongly indeed and if kept handy, Ballagh will play a major part in this one at 11/4 BOG today.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:

Carol's Destrier / Fletchers Flyer @ 8/1 (2/1 & 2/1 : Betfred & Totesport)
Carol's Destrier / Ballagh @ 10.25/1 (2/1 & 11/4 : Hills)
Clondaw Knight / Fletchers Flyer @ 10.92/1 (10/3 & 7/4 : BetVictor & Coral)
Clondaw Knight / Ballagh @ 15.25/1 (10/3 & 11/4 : Hills)
