Double Dutch, 1st August 2014
We closed out July with a triple double, which is nice, though it has mainly been a case of "little fish are sweet". Debt To Society made all at a drifting 2/1 to see off Mulligan and co, for a 1-2 in the opener; and then Isthereadifference capitalised after The Absent Mare horlicksed the last when looking like winning. That was a 1-3, but obviously the only material element is that we bagged two winners and third consecutive double.
Thursday's results were as follows:
Debt To Society: won at 2/1 (adv 13/8)
Mulligan's Man: 2nd at 2/1 (adv 3/1)
Isthereadifference: won at 5/4 (adv 7/4)
The Absent Mare: 3rd at 4/1 (adv 4/1)
Results to date:
307 winning selections from 1075 = 28.56%
102 winning bets in 281 days = 36.3%
P/L : +70.19pts (+12.45% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
After a good week, I'm after a spot of cream and jam today, so it's a slightly more ambitious couple, starting in this juvenile claimer! To my eye, Strategic Order is clear best of these, and has two pieces of very decent form in the context of the race. The step up in trip looks spot on too, and it's only the good to firm ground that he has to demonstrate he goes on. If he does, I think he'll win.
But he's not favourite; that 'honour' goes to Cafe Cortado (a very fine infusion, consisting of a shot of espresso and a bit more froth than a macchiato but less than than a capuccino - it's important to know one's coffees!)
Anyway, Cafe Cortado gets a bit of weight from Strategic Order, and is proven over seven on good to firm. So, with this chap, it's 'merely' a question of whether he's good enough, all other things being equal. That makes him a perfect reserve for our other half, and it looks between the pair.
If there is to be a spoiler in the party it could be outsider, Fazenda's Girl, as - if I've read this right - the others are either poor horses or don't like the ground. If I've read this right...
It'll be a late finish north of Edinburgh if we get leg one home in front. This is a trappy handicap, where Cara's Request has the best form, and looks a solid win chance. I do have a reservation about the ground for him in spite of a neck second on good to firm last time out. That run gives him the beating of these though, so if he can replicate he's going to double us up on the day.
If he can't replicate, I like Snow Bay, himself second last time, and very well suited to conditions. He goes on the ground, is two from four in this grade, has won at the track, and is a chunky nine pounds shy of his last winning mark. Now, at eight years of age, he might be a bit less the horse than he once was. But in a weak looking contest, he's well worth chancing.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
