We paid the price for side-stepping the second favourite in leg one yesterday, as that one - Quite By Chance - was better able to side step the fences than Taradrewe (fell) and quicker than Makadamia (2nd). That was a real shame as we had  huge drifter in leg two when Al Muheer won having been sent off 13/2 (advised 11/4).

Them's the breaks, and we move on to Tuesday, a day virtually bereft of inspiration...

Monday's results were as follows:

Makadamia: 2nd at 15/8 (adv 15/8)
Taradrewe: UR at 4/1 (adv 9/2)
Al Muheer: WON at 13/2 (adv 11/4)
Manipulation: 2nd at Evs (adv 7/4)

Results to date:
523 winning selections from 1834 = 28.52%
163 winning bets in 475 days = 34.32%

Stakes: 949.50pts
Returns: 1059.17pts

Midlands action all round, starting in the...

2.20 Wolverhampton:

A moderate mile handicap with a solid favourite in Toymaker. Phil McEntee's eight year old has won two of five starts round here, and showed himself to be in good form with a brace of third places over longer trips at Chelmsford. The booking of Adam Kirby is always a positive.

Adam Beschizza is also a fine jockey, though one who has lost his way a little in the last couple of years. His partnership with Christine Dunnett is solid, however, and has yielded four wins and three further places from 14 runs at this track since 2009. They collectively amounted to 27.25 units profit, and that's enough to make the ticket for Happydoingnothing who should race prominently from his stall two berthing.

4.55 Southwell:

I'm pretty sure I've never included a conditional jockeys' hands and heels race on here before, and I may never do so again. But it really is that bad today. In any case, the favourite, Sendiym, is an experienced conveyance for an inexperienced rider, and ground, trip and grade are spot on. He's never raced at Southwell before, but there's little of note on the hurdle course to trouble a boy like Sendiym.

At the other end of the experience spectrum, Blue Talisman has his first handicap hurdle start. Peter Bowen, in good form at the moment and long term here at Southwell, also has a fine record first time in handicaps. He's saddled 14 in the last year, with three winning and four more placing, for a win profit of 13.63 points. His son, the talented Sean Bowen, who can boast four winners in the past fortnight, rides. That's one more winner than all the remaining jockeys put together have achieved in the same timeframe, from 40 collective starts!

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:

Toymaker / Sendiym @ 9.31/1 (7/4 & 11/4: Betfair sportsbook)

Spotted that after I posted, David. So we have two win singles on leg one and doubles going into just one horse in leg two.

I was late on so decided to use my, ahem, “skill and good judgement” and replaced Blue Talisman with Mr. Squirrel and Dance For Livvy (split stake). I’m sure I’ll regret that decision come 5pm but good luck to all however you played it.

Great shout Mike I really couldn’t see past senydim in that race and paid the price last leg in a patent and lucky 15 baby stakes but still they all add up
