Double Dutch, 2nd October 2013

No joy yesterday, I'm afraid. Bombadero seemed to have race 1 in the bag, before he crashed through the penultimate hurdle, lost all momentum and the race with it! Wayward Glance stayed on dourly and a little one paced to finish two lengths further back.

Ben Cee Pee M never got a chance to show us whether he was a good pick or not in race 2, the 50/1 rank outsider of the 6 runners, Total Assets fell and brought down our selection and one other, making for a 3-horse race, which standby pick Western Prize lost by a neck, after his jockey lost his whip on the run in!

Just one of those days.

Yesterday's results were as follows:

Bombadero : 2nd at 2/1 (SP 11/8)
Wayward Glance: 3rd at 5/1 (6th)
---------------------------------
Western Prize: 2nd at 4/1
Ben Cee Pee M: brought down

Chasing in Ireland and an evening A/W spin today...

4.35 Sligo

It's very hard to look beyond the two at the top of the market Toner D'Oudairies and Go All The Way. Both are available at around the 11/8 mark (BetVictor & Paddy Power respectively). Toner has won two of his last three outings and will relish condition underfoot (3 from 8 on soft ground) and would be difficult to beat if in the mood. Preference however is for Go All The Way, who would be conceding 7lbs, were this a handicap, but actually receives 4lbs here. Has also made a good start to chasing with two wins and a third from five attempts.

8.10 Kempton:

A competitive looking nursery here, but I like 9/4 shot Top Tug, who comes here off the back of a C&D win and looks leniently treated on his handicap debut. 5 winners from 14 in the last week shows what good form the yard is in too. My alternate pick is Extra Noble who has won once and finished second twice in his three starts. He was only beaten by a short head in a far better race than this at Doncaster last time out. His yard has a good record in these events and 100/30 (generally) looks inviting.

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows:
Go All The Way / Top Tug @ 7.31 with Boylesports, Stan James & Betfred
Go All The Way / Extra Noble @ 9.74 with Paddy Power
Toner D'Oudairies /Top Tug @ 7.43 with BetVictor
Toner D'Oudairies / Extra Noble @ 9.52 with BetVictor

Cheers, boss. You weren’t too shabby yourself either with that late double.
