Double Dutch, 31st August 2015
Saturday was a rare double loser, and compounded what has been a fairly wretched month for Double Dutch. Of course, good runs and bad runs are part of the game, and we'll look to round out a difficult spell with a Bank Holiday pair, which may perhaps act as a springboard for a strong September.
Saturday's results were as follows:
Lucky Kristale : 3rd at 11/4 (adv 7/2)
Portamento : 7th at 5/1 (adv 11/2)
Gospel Choir : 2nd at 7/4 (adv 13/8)
Gibeon : 3rd at 3/1 (adv 7/2)
Results to date:
661 winning selections from 2349 = 28.14%
209 winning bets in 609 days = 34.32%
P/L : +102.58pts (+8.43% ROI)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
A Bank Holiday bonanza means there's no shortage of races to go at...
Five runners in what looks a three horse race, and the 'line of green' horse, Classic Palace, is the first name on the team sheet. A winner of his last two, including over course and distance, and in better grade, JJ Lambe's regular Irish raider has conditions in his favour again. He will have to face multiple challenges for the lead, but looks versatile enough to sit in behind if necessary. He must go well again.
Against him there are two clear dangers, Sharp Rise and Highpower. The former is a win machine, but the combination of a step up in trip and a double penalty might just find him out in this company. Highpower, representing the powerful partnership of Jonjo O'Neill and Richard Johnson, comes here from handicaps, where he's been running really well. His teeth may just be sharper than the novice boys, with the form of his Uttoxeter handicap win working out pretty well.
A rare trip to Northern Ireland for leg two, and a handicap hurdle at Downpatrick. Gordon Elliott's combination with Paul Carberry here is noteworthy, the pair scoring with 21 of 57 team efforts since 2009. They have two runners today, with marginally more appeal held by Mustadrik, a dual winner earlier in the season. Decent ground and this trip look optimal and, with both trainer and jockey having exceptional course records in the last year both together and individually, he's a decent bet at 7/2.
The jolly is Hurry Kitty, a lightly raced improver. She may have been undone by the heavy ground last time, weakening late on and, after a nice break, can come here fresh and well. A repeat of her penultimate effort will see her go close in what is a pretty moderate affair.
