Double Dutch, 3rd August 2015

Saturday started really well with a 1-2 finish at Thirsk and with the longer priced of my two picks proving triumphant by three parts of a length, it was the perfect result for us, especially with the added bonus of a near 7/1 exacta to top things off.

Unfortunately, we were thwarted half an hour later in our attempts at a quick-fire Yorkshire double as we could only take 2nd and 3rd from the Doncaster contest. All of which pretty much summed up how the week has gone for DD!

Saturday's results were as follows:

Astley Hall : WON at 9/4 (adv 5/2)
Alizoom : 2nd at 15/8 (adv 15/8)
The Exacta paid £7.90 here.
----------------------------------------------------
Lilian Baylis : 2nd at 10/3 (adv 5/2)
Master Of Speed : 3rd at 5/2 (adv 5/2)

Results to date:
641 winning selections from 2261 = 28.35%
202 winning bets in 586 days = 34.47%

Stakes: 1171.50pts
Returns: 1290.78pts
P/L : +119.28pts (+10.18% ROI)

REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS

We could really do with a good start to the new week via...

7.15 Carlisle:

It's really desperate stuff today, and the first leg of a DDD (Desperate Double Dutch) is in a Lady Riders' Pro-Am handicap. That's not the worst part of it though, as we're near the bottom of the quality spectrum and we're racing on unseasonably soft ground. Of course, if it's tricky stuff, we'll ask for a bit more meat on the bone than normal, and that comes in the form of Kenny The Captain and/or Blue Jacket.

Kenny has top weight and will be ridden by the best lady rider find of the season, Rachel Richardson. She's ridden seven winners from 31 starts in the last month, and is on another with solid prospects here. A dual soft ground winner at this trip, Kenny The Captain has also got excellent form in this grade, to which he drops for the first time in ages: 03211. The '0' was on his career bow in early 2013.

I think he has a good chance, but I'm happy to back him up with Blue Jacket. Trainer by mummy Sayer (Dianne) and ridden by daughter Sayer (Emma), Blue Jacket is a versatile stick with regards trip though this might be a minimum. If they go quick - and with so many inexperienced riders, there's a good chance they will - she'll be staying on very well up the stiff Carlisle finish. She was second a month ago at this distance, and has a bit of soft ground form too. She's on the short side odds wise, but for good reason.

8.00 Windsor :

A maiden stakes will close out our double if we're still rolling, and this looks a case of quantity over quality. Top on speed ratings, and well backed already, is Uele River.

Henry Candy's Refuse To Bend filly looked not to stay over a quarter mile further last time and, before that, she was a close second at this trip in a race where the third and fourth have both won since. She could break her duck here.

If not, perhaps it will be Marcus Tregoning's Burmese that picks up the pieces. Bred for at least this ten furlongs, he's been second on both starts, latterly at today's trip and on similarly quick ground. He was staying on there, and the niggle remains that he wants further; but with a couple looking to be keen to get on with things this might be a more searching stamina test than that Leicester race, and he looks the second most likely winner.

Air Of Astana is feared most of the rest.
