Double Dutch

Double Dutch, 3rd February 2016

A famiiar story at Taunton yesterday, as our back to back races provided us with a solitary unpaired winner, in the shape of Sonny The One who proved to be good value at our advised 4/1, just about holding off a couple of late challengers.

Unfortunately, we'd not been able to find a winner half an hour earlier, with After Hours' 16.5 length defeat the best I could muster.

Tuesday's results were as follows:

After Hours : 4th at 9/4 (adv 5/2)
Master Red : PU at 2/1 (adv 5/2)
----------------------------------------------------
Sonny The One : WON at 11/4 (adv 4/1)
Wychwoods Brook : PU at 6/4 (adv 5/2)

Results to date:
795 winning selections from 2860 = 27.80%
246 winning bets in 740 days = 33.24%

Stakes: 1479.00pts
Returns: 1550.53pts
P/L : +71.53pts (+4.84% ROI)

Today's Selections...

3.10 Newcastle

After 5 wins and 3 places from just 12 starts in bumpers/hurdles contests, much was expected of Lord Wishes over fences, but it has taken a while for James Ewart to get the best out of him in this sphere. He paired up with today's jockey Brian Harding for the first time at Kelso five weeks ago and they drew clear off the field 2 out and costed to a facile 11 lengths victory. Obviously up in weight today, but the margin of his last win could have been far greater for a horse with wins on soft and heavy ground to his name, there's every chance of a repeat here at 11/4 BOG.

But he'll have tougher opposition here from Special Catch, a runner-up here 8 weeks ago on heavy ground over an inadequate 16.5f and ultimately outpaced late on in a 6 lengths defeat. Up in trip (he's 3/7 at 19/20f) and on slightly better ground (he's 3/6 on soft), conditions look far more suitable for him and a win at 2/1 BOG wouldn't really be a surprise.

4.10 Leicester

Both trainer Nigel and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies have good records here at Leicester, both as a team and as individuals and they'll be expecting yet another winner on the shape of the 15/8 BOG Ballyrath and on the basis of his last run, it's hard to disagree. He ran out a very comfortable winner by 9 lengths here on this track 8 days, despite easing down late on. He's raised 7lbs for that effort, but that really wouldn't have stopped him last time out and with him dropping back slightly in trip today, there's less of a stamina test here.

In opposition, I'll take the French import Walk In The Mill, who was a winner over this trip on very soft ground at Fontainebleau before coming over to the UK, where despite failing to win any of this three starts, has been very consistent in making the frame each time. I'd suspect the same fate awaits him here today, but if the main selection fails to shine, then maybe we'll pick up a 4/1 BOG win this way?

4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows...

Special Catch/ Ballyrath @ 7.27/1 (15/8 & 15/8 : Coral)
Special Catch/ Walk In The Mill @ 12.50/1 (2/1 & 7/2 : generally)
Lord Wishes / Ballyrath @ 9.78/1 (11/4 & 15/8 : Coral)
Lord Wishes / Walk In The Mill @ 17/1 (3/1 & 7/2 : Stan James)
