Another day, another single winner, I'm afraid.
Welliesinthewater caught, passed and beat Akfar in the closing stages in Sothwell's finale, scoring by a neck to break a sequence of increasingly narrow defeats and landing us a near 15/2 excata in the process, but unfortuately the game was already up for us, after failing to make the frame in the 7-runner opener, wher Sir Geoffrey was our best placed in 4th at 6/1, beaten by almost 5.5 lengths over 5f!
Thursday's results were as follows:
Sir Geoffrey : 4th at 6/1 (adv 9/2)
Extreme Supreme : 6th at 5/2 (adv 3/1)
Welliesinthewater : WON at 2/1 (adv 7/2)
Akfar : 2nd at 5/2 (adv 9/4)
The Exacta paid £8.30 here.

The obvious starting point (although not necessarily the winner) is the penalised Alf n Dor, who shoulders an extras 7lbs for a win last time out. Mind you, he did finish some 21 lengths clear of his nearst rival that day, despite wandering about quite a bit late on, so more could well be expected from him.
The yard does well on heavy ground and with both trainer and jockey having good records (individually and as a team!) at this track, a 7/2 BOG victory wouldn't be a massive surprise.
But he'll have to beat Desert Retreat to do so, who comes back from a three month break to attempt to go one better than the two course and distance defeats he has endured so far. He was only beaten by two lengths last time out, with the winner Bun Doran subsequently going on to win a hurdles contest two grades higher than this.
Like Team Bowen above, the Hobbs/Johnson partnership is a formidable one here at Chepstow and as the yard's only runner of the day, they'll want their spoils from a 15/8 BOG wager to pay the diesel bill!
Mfiftythreedotcom has looked close to returning to winning ways of late, making the frame in both of his starts this year. A 2.25 length defeat as a runner-up over course and distance here was followed by a third place finish at Lingfield almost a fortnight ago. Beaten by just a couple of lengths that day, he runs off the same mark here, but will be asssited by a 5lb claim giving him every chance at around 5/2 BOG...
...making him my marginal preference ahead of Celtic Artisan who was a good second over course and distance under today's jockey a week ago off the same mark as today. The yard has been in good nick of late and this one was possibly unlucky to bump into an inprover last time around and lurking at the bottom of the weights could prove dangerous at 3/1 BOG.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles as follows...
Desert Retreat / Mfiftythreedotcom @ 9.06/1 (15/8 & 5/2 : Stan James)
Desert Retreat / Celtic Artisan @ 11.46/1 (15/8 & 10/3 : Ladbrokes)
Alf n Dor / Mfiftythreedotcom @ 14.75/1 (7/2 & 5/2 : generally)
Alf n Dor / Celtic Artisan @ 18.50/1 (7/2 & 10/3 : Ladbrokes)
REMINDER: THERE IS NO DOUBLE DUTCH ON SUNDAYS
