Double Dutch, 6th March 2014
Winning doubles seem to be like London Buses! We had to wait a while before Tuesday's success and now another comes along right behind it. And yesterday's 10.25/1 result was supplemented by the return of a successful forecast (paid £4.50), which we've not seen for a while.
Yesterday's results were as follows:
Harris: won at 6/4 (adv 9/4)
Tiny Dancer: 3rd at 15/8 (adv 15/8)
(The Exacta/Forecast paid £4.50)
Dark And Dangerous: won at 9/4 (adv 11/4)
Endeavor: 4th of 5 at 9/4 (adv 5/2)
Results to date:
171 winning selections from 602 = 28.41%
57 winning bets in 159 days = 35.85%
P/L : +45.82pts (+14.59% ROI)
Racing now gets a little more competitive as we head towards the weekend, but I feel we've good chances with these on the A/W today:
The former Geegeez horse Khajaaly features here and he's in good form, winning twice and placing twice in his last five starts, but all his wins and most of his best performances have been at Wolverhampton, so as much as I'd like to see him win again, I'll have to pass him over in favour of Imaginary World and Alpha Tauri.
Imaginary World has been coming into some decent finishing second at Wolverhampton before winning here over a mile 25 days ago. She's up 3lbs for that win, but she is dropping back a furlong, which should enable her to maintain enough for a finish under the increased burden. She has town wins on this track to her name (from her last three visits), she has won twice at this trip, once over course and distance and can be backed at 4/1 BOG in most places.
The biggest danger is likely to come from the favourite Alpha Tauri who currently trades as high as 5/2 BOG with Boylesports. He was second here a week ago when beaten by just half a length over 6 furlongs and the assessor has given him some leniency by dropping him a pound. He has been running pretty well of late, finishing second in two of his last three outings and has actually won 5 and finished second in 4 of his 13 attempts over course and distance, making him a player here today.
Over the last year, Waveguide has made the frame in seven of her nine races, culminating in a second place finish at Southwell at the end of January and then back to back wins at Lingfield last month, so she comes here looking for a hat-trick. She has stayed on well of late and is only raised 2lbs despite her great recent form. She does like to make all and hold on and if allowed an easy/soft lead, she'll be very difficult to beat/pass and I fancy her to take this at a best price of 7/4 BOG (SkyBet & Stan James).
One of interest, though, is Jewelled, who was sent off at 33/1 at Lingfield 5 days ago when asked to tackle 12f for the first time and was only beaten by a half-length and a head back in third place that day. A slight drop back in trip allied to running off the same mark should see her in contention again today in what looks a weaker race on paper. No massive odds today, though: she's currently 11/4 BOG with Hills.
4 x 0.5pt BOG doubles, as follows:
Alpha Tauri / Waveguide @ 8.19/1 (5/2 & 13/8 : Boylesports)
Alpha Tauri / Jewelled @ 11.25/1 (5/2 & 5/2 : Boylesports)
Imaginary World / Waveguide @ 12.75/1 (4/1 & 7/4 : SkyBet & Stan James)
Imaginary World / Jewelled @ 17.75/1 (4/1 & 11/4 : Hills)
