The Shortlist, 6th May 2014

shortlist

In Llanelli today, and I can heartily recommend the Thomas Arms as an oasis of connectivity - and good service and comfy beds - in a desert of disconnection across the west of Wales. It's beautiful this close to Ireland, but it is also remote and I may have learned something about myself this week. (Not necessarily something good either!)

Yesterday saw us back on the winning trail, courtesy of Debdebdeb, and we had good runs from both Quinz (2nd) and Solstice Son (3rd) too. Bousatet rounded out a 1-2-3-4 for us on the day.

Here's Tuesday's The Shortlist.

Today's racecards are here.

Your first 30 days for just £1

2.30 Fak - Not Til Monday - 9/4 Skybet
2.40 Kem - New Row - 33/1 BetVictor
4.30 Fak - Little Legend - 5/1 Coral
5.10 Kem - Crystal Lake - 11/4 PP
7.10 Fai - Final Day e/w - 10/1 bet365

REMINDER: THERE IS NO SHORTLIST ON SUNDAYS

The Shortlist is a simple concept: I go through the Race Analysis Reports each day to find horses which I consider to be of interest. I then publish that list of horses here. Some will win, many will lose. It is hoped that the winners will cover the losers and leave a bit of gravy on the punting platter. Now, before I go on, I need to make (labour!) a really important point. And it is this: the Race Analysis Reports are deliberately interpretive.

That is, different people will highlight different horses depending on whether they're using the win or place statistics, and which columns they sort on (based on which elements they consider most important in a given race). So, these will be the horses on MY shortlist. Feel free to do with them what you will. You may have a different shortlist, and you are most certainly encouraged to go and play with the numbers to find what works best for you.

As regular readers will know, it makes absolute sense to get the best price you can about any selection you're backing. Put another way, it makes no sense whatsoever to accept a shorter price than the best available unless you've got too much money and are keen to give some away! 😉

So, if you don't already have accounts with all the main bookmakers, you should get them. Seriously. Not only will they give you free bets when you start, but you'll also  more importantly - always get the best value on any bet you make by ensuring you take the top price. It's just daft not to.

Here at geegeez, we've got a special software tool which takes the hard (and dull) work of opening accounts, and makes it easy. You fill out a single form, and our software does the rest, opening up to twelve accounts for you with all the major bookmakers.

We're still 'twixt Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig, meaning I'm largely without connectivity. Would be great for the soul if I wasn't forever flapping about how I'm going to "get my bits and pieces done". Back within digital reach tomorrow, which is good news / bad news, of course.

Today's racecards are here.

3.25 Kem - Quinz - 11/2 Betfred

Apologies to readers, but I have no wifi today (in the wilds of Snowdonia National Park - beautiful but a bit 'back of beyond' for us digirati!)

No Sunday service, so normal service will be resumed on Monday. Thanks a lot for understanding.

One of those days yesterday. A non-runner, a fourth each way, a fell at the last when second at a decent price, and a few clunkers to boot. Oh, and that man Ger Fox booted home a 25/1 winner in Punchestown. Onwards.

The Shortlist, 1st May 2014

shortlist

April ended with a break even day as Doctor Kingsley - advised at 2/1, returned 6/4 - covered two losers. Wise Old Owl was given an exaggerated waiting ride, and travelled very well until blowing up on his first run for two years. He may be getting targeted for the Galway Plate, in which he was 2nd in 2011 off 138. He'll likely run off circa 130 there this year, and Ger Fox may again take the seven pounds off, meaning he'd effectively be a stone better off than when second three years back. Seemed to retain plenty of ability.

Very close to a massive treble from our three Tuesday picks, as both Faugheen and Sizing Europe won - at early odds of evens and 10/1 - and City Slicker ran second at 20/1. Still, a ten point profit is hardly to be sniffed at.

A washout on Saturday, pretty much, with just Burton Port's second place when looking all over the winner, to show.

Ingleby Angel was a big eye catcher for me, never put in the race in an exaggerated last, and than running on well to be fifth without the jockey ever getting serious on him. If Ryan Moore again rides next time, perhaps at York's Dante meeting, he'll have a serious chance.

The early show turned into the late, late show yesterday, as the last of the five picks, Bermuda Boy, got up on the line in a very tight finish. He was nominated at 10/1, but a 20p Rule 4 made that 7.8/1. Still a good bit better than the 9/2 SP. Top Wood was heavily backed - our 9/1 capitulated to 4/1 joint favourite by off time, again a Rule 4 in place - and led until the last 100 yards, eventually finishing a length and a half fourth.

I'm off to Sandown to cheer Sire De Grugy this afternoon, and these are The Shortlist's fancies, including a number of the Scoop6 races. I might have to do a £2 line!!!

REMINDER: THERE IS NO SHORTLIST ON SUNDAYS

***

The Shortlist, 19th April 2014

shortlist

Three big-priced horses yesterday, and though Trinityelitedotcom shortened to 5/1 from the early 10/1 he could only finish a head second, so a bit unlucky there.

Saturday's The Shortlist is below. Although there's lot of racing today, there are very few standout profile horses.

Today's racecards are here.

2.45 Newt - Ruapehu - 11/8 888sport
2.55 Kem - Zurigha - 9/4 BetVictor
