Cotswold Chase Trends

Run at Cheltenham racecourse – normally in the third week of January at their Trials Meeting – the Cotswold Chase is run over a trip of 3m 1 ½ furlongs. The race is deemed as another Cheltenham Gold Cup trial, but maybe only in name as the last horse to land both races in the same season was Looks Like Trouble in 2000, while Master Oats took both prizes back in 1995.

Being Staged at Sandown Park in 2021 - Note, the 2021 running of the Cotswold Chase will now be run at Sandown Park on Saturday 6th Feb 2021, after the original race day at Cheltenham (30th Jan) was called off.

Twelve months ago in 2020 we saw the Nicky Henderson-trained Santini win the race under jockey Nico de Boinville – that was the first winning favourite in the last 17 runnings, while Santini went onto finish a close second in the 2020 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Here at GEEGEEZ we take a look back at past winners of the Paddy Power Cotswold Chase and give you all the stats that mater ahead of the 2021 renewal – this year run on Saturday 6th February 2021.

Irish Champion Hurdle Trends

The Irish Champion Hurdle is a Grade One race run over 2m and held at Leopardstown racecourse each year in early February.

In recent years, top hurdlers like Istabraq, Hardy Eustace, Brave Inca, and, more recently, Hurricane Fly, have graced the roll of honour and the race is always a decent guide ahead of the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival with Hurricane Fly the most recent horse to land both races in 2011 and 2013. Trainer Willie Mullins has won six of the last 10 runnings, so anything he runs is always respected.

It’s also been a big race for punters in recent years with the last 10 Irish Champion Hurdle favourites all winning! Backed up again in 2020 with the classy mare – Honeysuckle – winning the race for trainer Henry De Bromhead and jockey Rachael Blackmore.

Here at GEEGEEZ we are on-hand with all the key stats ahead of the 2021 renewal – this year staged on Saturday 6th February.

Sky Bet Chase Trends

Staged at Doncaster racecourse the Skybet Chase (formerly known as the Great Yorkshire Chase) is a Listed Handicap run over 3m. The race can often throw up some Grand National clues, although no winner in the last 15 runnings has gone onto win the Aintree marathon.

In recent years, the Alan King, Paul Nicholls and Pipe stables have dominated the race with two wins a-piece since 2003, while in the last 15 runnings we’ve seen just two winning favourites – the 2020 Skybet Chase was won by the Nicky Henderson-trained Ok Corral at 9/1.

Here at GEEGEEZ we look back at recent winners (note, the 2010 and 2011 runnings were abandoned) and gives you the key stats to take into the 2021 renewal – this year being run on Saturday 30th January.

Peter Marsh Chase Trends

The Peter Marsh Chase is a Grade Two race run over 3m that is staged at Haydock Park racecourse.

First run in 1981 the contest is sometimes billed as another Grand National trial, but we’ve yet to see a winner of this race land the Aintree marathon in the same season, although the 1995 winner, Earth Summit, did go onto win the Grand National 3 years later.

The 2020 Peter Marsh Chase was won by the Sue Smith-trained Vintage Clouds - the Sue Smith yard have won 5 of the last 17 runnings.

Here at GEEGEEZ we take a look back at recent winners and gives you the main stats to look out for ahead of the 2021 renewal – this year run on Saturday January 23rd.

Clarence House Chase Trends

Staged at Ascot racecourse the Clarence House Chase is a Grade One contest run over a distance of 2m1f.

The Clarence House Chase was first run back in 1989 when the popular Desert Orchid won the prize as a 10 year-old. The race is also a good guide to that season’s Queen Mother Champion Chase with Sprinter Sacre landing both races in 2013, Sire de Grugy in 2014, while Dodging Bullets did the same double in 2015. In more recent years, the Willie Mullins-trained Un De Sceaux has made the race his own by landing three of the last five renewals, while Altior landed the 2019 renewal.

The 2020 running though was won by the Philip Hobbs-trained Defi Du Seuil.

Trainers Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls has also won the race five times each and– as mentioned – the Willie Mullins camp have taken three of the last five runnings.

Here at GEEGEEZ we are on hand with all the key stats ahead of the 2021 renewal – this year run on Saturday 23rd January.

Probably not the best weekend of ITV action of the year, but we’ve still some nice jumping cards to look forward to from Warwick and Market Rasen, with seven races being shown LIVE on ITV across the two tracks.

The clear highlight on the day is the Grade 3 McCoy Constructors Civil Engineering Classic Handicap Chase (3.00) – a race trainer Paul Nicholls has won three times since 2006.

As normal, we are on-hand with all the key stats for the LIVE ITV races – hopefully they might help point you in the direction of a few winners.

Classic Chase Trends

The Mccoy Contractors Civil Engineering Classic Chase is a 3m5f gruelling Grade 3 handicap that is run at Warwick racecourse every season in January and provides punters with another chance to see some potential Aintree Grand National hopefuls on show.

Thyestes Chase Trends

Staged at Gowran Park racecourse, in Ireland, the Thyestes Chase is run over a distance of 3m, and is often contested by horses that go onto run in the Grand National later in the season. That said, we’ve not seen any winners of this race go onto win the Aintree race that same season, but Hedgehunter (2004) and Numbersixvalverde (2005) did go onto glory in the Aintree marathon later in their careers.

In recent years, the Willie Mullins yard have won the Thyestes Chase five times in the last 9 runnings, and eight times in all – he looks to have another strong hand this year too. He also won it in 2020 with Total Recall.

Here at GEEGEEZ we look back at recent winners and highlights the key stats to take into the 2021 running – this year staged on Thursday 28th January.

More LIVE ITV action this Saturday as the cameras head to Wincanton, Kempton and Chepstow for a bumper day of LIVE action with 10 ITV races being shown!

At Kempton Park, the Lanzarote Hurdle is their main event – a race that trainer Nicky Henderson has won three times since 2013. Plus, they are also staging the Grade Two Relkeel Hurdle that was lost at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

Then at Wincanton, we’ve four LIVE races that include the rescheduled Paddy Power Dipper Novices’ Chase, that was called off at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

We’ve also got the 2020 Welsh Grand National and Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle to take in at Chepstow – two more races that we lost over the Christmas period due to the weather.

So, fingers crossed the weather is kind and, as normal, we are on-hand with all the key stats and trends for the LIVE ITV races – hopefully they might help point you in the direction of a few winners.

2021 Lanzarote Hurdle Trends

Named after the leading hurdler of the 70’s, Lanzarote, who won the 1974 Champion Hurdle - this contest is staged at Kempton Park racecourse each January.

Run over 2m5f, with 10 hurdles to tackle, the Ladbrokes-sponsored Lanzarote Hurdle is always a hotly-contested affair and in the past has been won three times by trainer Gary Moore, while the Nick Williams, Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson yards are others to have won the race in recent years. Including in 2020 when we saw the Nicky Henderson-trained Burrows Edge land the prize – the yard’s third win in the race since 2013.

Here at GeeGeez we look back at past winners and gives you the key stats to look out for ahead of the 2021 renewal – this year run on Saturday 9th January.
