With Hughes doing the steering, Sweet Cecily chased the leaders early, travelling well two furlongs out to challenge and take the lead in the final 100 yards, staying on well to record a half a length victory over Question Times, with Sharnberry a further half a length in arrears in third place.

Regarding Hughes's bid for the title, Richard Hannon jnr said, "He's obviously going to give it a real good go for the next few days.

"He will likely leave for the USA on Friday but we will see how he gets on this week, he might ride on Friday before flying out to the States. If that were the case, Ryan could ride Tale Untold on the Friday in the Juvenile Fillies' Turf.

"It would be great for either of the two to win it, as neither have won it before, and it would be great if they drew."

Commenting on Sweet Cecily, Hannon jnr said, "She was a totally different filly today, she probably learned a lot from her last run. It's great to get her some black type and she may go for the Fred Darling next season."
