It was a top-grade run for victory on Zebedee for Jockey Richard Hughes, who gave his superb best in the Group 3 Betfair Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
Trained by Richard Hannon, whose season's success with two-year-olds displays indication of abating, and running in the colours of Julie Wood, who has had triumphs this season with Strong Suit and Date with Destiny.
After placing fifth in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, Zebedee came back with a Listed victory at Sandown and she commented on Hughes's efforts, "Richard wanted to drop him in today. At Ascot he was up there and fully exposed. Today suited the horse better.
"It's heart stopping, you think he'll get there but your heart's in your mouth until he does."
Hannon added, "We knew they'd go fast, but if he keeps riding like that he'll give me a heart attack one day.
Regarding Zebedee, Hannon said, "When he went to Windsor first time he was odds-on and everybody knew about him. He's just one of those horses that keep improving.
"He's growing and is a good horse - I'm sure he'll be a nice horse for one of those sales races at Newmarket."
"You can’t do it without the horse; this one made it easy.
"He’s got a super little dash that lasts about 50 metres and he’s explosive when he does it.
"We have said from day one that he was our fastest two-year-old. He’s made to be a two-year-old and we’ll make hay while the sun shines."
