Monday Mish Mash (on Tuesday)

Monday MishMashYes, I'm all over the shop after the heavy drinking and gambling gallivant in gay Pareee. My Monday mish mash had to be postponed as we picked through the rotting carcass of so many errant wagers from the Longchamp Sunday.

Still, that now a thing of the past, I've a number of t'ings to discuss today, and some questions... as follows:

- Where I am (another terrible video with another awful theme tune - do you actually watch and/or enjoy them?)
- A change of colour. Is it better?
- Fantasy Football Manager of the Month. Are you winning?
- A fair exchange is no robbery. Is this a fairer exchange?

Let's start with the changing of the font. I'm not sure about you, but that grey text colour played havoc with my (f)ailing eyeballs, and I've finally figured out how to change it to black. I think it's now easier to read, but this is about you guys, so do please tell me what you think.

OK, so that's something else I just figured out how to do... so you can expect regular 'intra-post' questions from here on in!

Manager of the month in the Fantasy Football is upon us again, and it's time to say well done to... drumroll... Mr Bob Gates. Come on down!

Bob managed to score 212 points in September with his Lukaura United team, which not only bags him the MotM prize of some free arb alerts, courtesy of our friends at, but also plonks him atop the main league standings, with a very tidy 450 points overall.

Indeed, that's good enough for 7,298th out of the 2.5 million or so entries in the outright competition. More materially, perhaps, it's good enough for a 19 point cushion over Robert Henderson's utdfifer (I'm guessing Robert's a Scottish Reds fan, no idea about Bob's allegiance!).

In third is Mark Bassant's SHARPSHOOTERS 007 (no need to shout, Mark!), with last month's manager of the month, Jim Kennedy still in there pitching in fifth. (Paul Scott, you are 4th with your Real Salfordians).

Me? Well, marked improvement on my shocking start. I've gone up from 135th at end of August to 62nd by the end of September. In truth, I have as much chance of winning the league as West Brom - sorry Baggies fans, I know that comes as a shock... 😉 - but I'm pushing for a touch more respectability and, if you were in front of me and are now behind me, pull your socks up!

All the scores can be seen at the official site, here. Bob, please email me at info[at] so I can get you sorted out.

And on and on we go. Now then, next question. With which exchanges do you currently have an account?

I'll explain why I'm interested tomorrow, but I need to understand if there's any point first..!

[poll id="29"]

And finally in what has been something of a whistlestop mish mash, here's that dodgy video I promised you. It's a quick tour of where I've been hanging out for the last fortnight (and the next five days or so).

Cheesy sound track, and Blair Witch Project camera work are, as always, the hallmarks of my 'quality' production standards. So, with the usual caveats in mind, run VT... (first half is travelogue, second half 'through the keyhole', both halves B-Movie)

Back tomorrow - do please take a second to answer the questions, and thanks a lot in advance for your input.

Your poll did not allow for multiple answers – needed on which exchange do you use. I have accounts withh all 3 but the poll did not allow for that.

The thing I like the most Matt is your outlook on betting, its pretty open unlike some who think they know so much but tip bugger all right. Its easy on the eye and not open to misinterpretation, keep up the good work.

    Hi Matt,
Nice video in places (shame about the soundtrack).
Need to get the polls to enable more than one answer or rearrange the questions.
I have Betfair and Betdaq accounts but couldn’t get it into the radio button response.
You probably beeded to use tick box with more than one answer allowed.
    Good mish mash though…
    All the best

very nice matt, can i book the house for a week next spring please.
in all honesty, i do like to watch your video,s, to be at the arc, must have been brilliant. however for me, i was never one for the big racing days, whether cheltenham the derby or the suchlike,
was never for me, it was i think down to the huge crowds, yet myself and three mates went to the york spring meeting and i loved that. but back home i went to the friday meeting at ayr, and not the scottish grand national, it was the same with the ayr gold cup, i went on the friday instead. now that is strange.

You’ll be showing us pictures of your Aston Martin next Matt!
btw very impressed with the cockney/Italian/pseudo French.

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

Aston Martin? Erm, no, can’t drive and actually I have very little in the way of material stuff (houses aside). I think a burglar in my house would be most disappointed!

I’m all about quality of life, and that’s not things, it’s ‘being’. Crikey, that sounded incredibly precious!!! Hope you sort of get what I’m saying.

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

Haha, the problems Roy, are twofold. 1. I wouldn’t be able to find any young girls to lounge with me, and 2. Mrs Matt would be distinctly unimpressed with the notion!

  7. Dave Cox
    Dave Cox says:

For me there are a number of points that stand out.
    Firstly Matt’s love of racing.
Secondly honesty; although clearly very knowledgeable he is very open about the fact that there are definite trends, but still no real certainties in racing.

    Keep up the fun!

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

      Thank you Dave.

I think the format of the site is slowly growing better and I do like your short movie shots particularly because I have a very poor brooadband speed and your shots do not need a lot of buffering.I have to say however that I do not understand what the word “Em” means and I am not particularly keen on slang language use, mainly imported from America

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks David. I have to embrace the internationalism of both racing and the geegeez readership. I do try to use correct English where possible, and I believe I used the word ‘erm’, which is not slang, but merely the enunciation of a noise made when pausing for thought / effect / some other reason, and emanated from the back of the throat.

But then you knew that in any case!

My point, laboured as ever, is that I write largely as I speak, and that includes doffing my cap to pauses, slang, Americanism’s, Franglais, and any other butchering of language I can get my hands on.

It is indeed one of the great joys of writing, for me, despite my utmost respect for British English, that I can occasionally take license to interject and juxtapose with a ‘bon mot’ from elsewhere. 😉

You must be a very sad man matt I only saw one other person in the video and he had his back turned.

    Liam says:

    Hi Matt,
I said it all in my vote. All positive, but I do agree with the point about exchanges. I only use two, but mainly Bet fair. A point you may wish to look into? The word fair. We should all be using Euro’s on Bet fair and not G.B.P.
Minimum bets: 2.00 G.B.P. But when you were in France, did you notice 2.00 Euro. Minimum bet?
We pay more in the UK! Suppose you and I put 100.00 on a horse that you recommend to me, and you are in France and I am in England. But you are living in France not just over for a few days. You will have it set to Euro’s where as, I am set to GBP. Could be £ 14.00 difference in the stake. So I think, I need to change to Euro’s for Betfair use. Save a bit of Dosh. when it does an Arc De Tri’ That’s life Any Bet Tote!

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Liam

That is rather defeatist! Obviously, when losing, betting in euro’s saves money. But when winning, it costs money! 😉

p.s. I’m still here in Mazeres Lezon until Saturday morning. Just in time for the weather to change, as I understand it…

    I’m a Baggies fan Matt.

I’m regularly on here praising you and your blog etc., but not any more!!

I’ve had a grand on West Brom to win the title and was ‘home and hosed’psychologically until you interjected with the notion that this isn’t going to be our year. I was working on the assumption that having not won the top tier championship since 1920, with only 90 or so clubs in the four divisions, then statistically, it was our turn to win it!

I like betting according to stats.and this one seemed rock solid from a logical interpretation of the numbers. But I suspect there may be a problem with the way I’ve interpretated the data that I’d rather have not known about until next May.

    You’ve crushed me. 🙁

Sorry – not into videos much. All the best,

Nice video Matt. Just out of interest, what camera were you using ?
Also, can you tell me what will win the Cesarewitch on Saturday please ?

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Pete

It’s a flip HD. They cost about £100 and I have to say – not being much of a gadget/gizmo man – that it’s excellent. As you can see, despite my rubbish videography, the image is quality is excellent.

Cesarewitch… slightly trickier, but note that bizarrely a low draw is helpful; top four last time out; 20/1 or shorter; and 9-0 or less.

As such, Kazbow, Dazinski, Cosimo de Medici, and Ermyn Lodge look interesting, depending on how they’re drawn on Thursday. But I’ll post something more material to what was likely a rhetorical question in any case, later in the week…!

    Hi Matt,

Enjoyed the video in sunny Pau. Feeling quite nostalgic actually watching it – my mum is from near Pau and I used to holiday there pretty much every year when I grew up. I haven’t returned in over 20 years. Did you visit the racecourse / was there any racing there? I recall we toured l’hippodrome one Saturday morning with a friend of ours who was into horse racing big time, I was about 10 and remember enjoying it very much.

In return I have to say I love your videos and look forward to bying the first commercial compendium version which could be named Matts Masterpieces and when you become famous they will be sought after all over the world and early genuine copies would sell on E Bay for a £1,000 plus.

    Good luck to you

    • Matt Bisogno
      Matt Bisogno says:

Haha, that’s pretty unlikely David, I’d say, but a nice enough thought, for sure.
