Geegeez Placepot

Placepot Picks: Newmarket, 7th June 2013

Close yesterday. Very close. Five winners with cumulative odds of 14,882/1 (!!) and a fourth placed banker, with three placepot places. Oh yes, and he was stopped in his run at a crucial point. Dividend paid £233, but that’s of little interest to us on this occasion.

Onwards, to Newmarket this afternoon, and a guest selection from Jim Cannon, Khajaaly and Priceless Art syndicate member, and pretty good picker of horses (backed 20/1 Honey Meadow and 8/1 Roserrow independently of my placepot perm).

It’s Newmarket’s first July course meeting, and weather couldn’t be a greater contrast to last year, when Jim, myself and a few other hardy souls were present for impressive performances from the late Newfangled, Thomas Chippendale, and the wind and rain.

Let’s kick on… Selections only, and Jim’s taking a real punt on leg one with two double figure odds horses. You have been warned! Caveat emptor.

2.10 – Leg 1:

A - 7 (Sefaat), 8 (Sleepy Sioux)

2.40 – Leg 2:

A – 5 (Sylvia Pankhurst)
B – 1 (Exceptionelle), 4 (Jubilante)

3.10 – Leg 3:

A – 3 (Great Hall), 6 (Legends)

3.45 – Leg 4:

A – 4 (Highland Colori), 7 (Elusive Flame)
B – 3 (Common Touch), 10 (Johnny Castle)

4.20 – Leg 5:

A – 3 (Maputo)

4.55 – Leg 6:

A – 1 (Aneedh)
B – 4 (Declamation), 5 (Footstepsintherain), 6 (Harwoods Star)

Just A's - 2 x 1 x 2 x 2 x 1 x 1 = 8 bets

All picks - 2 x 3 x 2 x 4 x 1 x 4 = 192 bets

hi Matt…this will be fascinating..jim certainly knows how to pick a horse!

I took the plunge on the focus ratings (not much of a plunge in truth!)…and they look like the perfect weapon as a starting point for the pacepot. a top 2 rated horse appears to be placed between 95%-110% of all races analyses, and that improves to top 3, where consistently in every race covered a top 3 rate horse is always placed!! reckon if i combine this with your analysis I cant go wrong!

    Apologies to one and all.

Matt told me I was taking a big punt on the first race but I thought they were reasonable picks and the pity is that if I had added the favourite then the placepot would have been won.

The downside is that because the favourites did so well the placepot didn’t pay much.

I should tell you that Matt did succeed in his own placepot just to prove he could do it better than me.

    Onwards and upwards.

    Jim
