WINCANTON -- TUESDAY 14TH MAY
The non-runners cost us (and plenty of other people yesterday) as only two places in the fillies handicap meant, of course, we finished third. Them's the breaks, and we regroup for another dig this afternoon, at Wincanton.
[Incidentally, the racecards are now working, and are about the fastest available on the net, I'm delighted to gloat!
Leg 1: 2.20 - This looks banker material, with the favourite, Springinherstep, hard to oppose. Fourth in Listed company last time, and taking a big step down in class here, she's a mile clear on all known form. There are a couple of obvious improvers in a field of improvers, notably Alan King's Fairyinthewind and Renee Robeson's Amistress, but the jolly is banker material here.
A - 1 (Springinherstep)
Leg 2: 2.50 - Lady Bridget might get an easy lead for her inexperienced pilot here, and could stretch them under such conditions. She's an A shout, as is Chilworth Screamer who probably has his optimal setup here.
On B, I'll add in Cnoc Moy, who could outrun his odds, and Present Accepted, who steps into handicap company for the first time against fairly moderate oppo.
A - 4 (Chilworth Screamer), 9 (Lady Bridget)
B - 8 (Cnoc Moy), 12 (Present Accepted)
Leg 3: 3.20 - A handicap with eight runners, meaning one out and we're down to two places. It's tricky too, with plenty favoured by the shape of the race.
Palace Jester could make a bold bid from the front, and money for it would be significant. But I'm going to assume today is not the day for that one, and look elsewhere. Plein Pouvoir loves it here, but the ground is probably too lively for him, unless the rains hit the southwest. Addiction was looking like doubling up last time when making a fairly soft unseat, and he ought to go close. He's a A pick.
On B, I'm using Dunkelly Castle (ground/trip/track/class form), and Nom De Guerre (ditto).
A - 2 (Addiction)
B - 6 (Dunkelly Castle), 7 (Nom De Guerre)
Leg 4: 3.50 - The hardest race of the day, so we'll start by picking the unnamed favourite on A. Then we'll chuck in the either very well treated or useless Custer Of The West, also on A. And I'll have the class-dropping, fast-ground-loving Ben Cee Pee M on A as well.
On B, I'll randomly select Boomtown Kat, Titch Strider and Spanish Fork. It's that sort of race.
A - Fav, 2 (Ben Cee Pee M), 3 (Custer Of The West)
B - 1 (Boomtown Kat), 4 (Spanish Fork), 6 (Titch Strider)
Leg 5: 4.20 - A four runner novice chase, and all have some sort of chance. Three are quite well clustered in the market and I'm taking all three on A. If the placepot looks like paying a few quid, you might want to have a small win bet on Seven Woods, to cover your placepot investment.
A - 2 (Oscargo), 3 (Velator), 4 (Barlow)
Leg 6: 4.50 - And we close with a five runner lady riders' hunter chase! Again, there's the prospect of a non-runner here dropping us to win only.
Master Medic is a deserved odds-on favourite, and he'll be A banker material. But, just in case we get a non-runner, I'm adding two to C, and they are Quedillac and Extra Bold. Again, if we go to four runners, I'll back anything not covered in the placepot perm to cover stakes and maybe lock in a profit if we're in that position.
A - 2 (Master Medic)
C - 1 (Extra Bold), 5 (Quedillac)
That leaves us with perms looking like this:
Just A's - 1 x 2 x 1 x 3 x 3 x 1 = 18 bets
All picks - 1 x 4 x 3 x 6 x 3 x 3 = 648 bets (!)
