Placepot pointers – Thursday 26th November 2015

It should be noted that placed/unplaced records are in line with the ruling of bookmakers, i.e. only one win and one place in races for 5/6/7 runners etc.

Monday's great dividend was something of a surprise as the win only event was won by a 9/2 chance, not the type of outsider that you imagine that was needed to produce such a haul!

Just repeating what has been said before in these columns, that you do not need ‘outrageous’ results to claim glorious dividends.

November Placepot dividends at Southwell (A/W):

Tuesday 3rd: £313.80 (6 favourites - 2 winners – 2 placed - 2 unplaced)

Thursday 12th: £24.90 (9 favourites - 2 winners – 3 placed - 4 unplaced)

Tuesday 24th: 82.30 (6 favourites – 3 winners – 1 placed – 2 unplaced)

Average dividend: £140.33

Favourites (21): 7 winners – 6 placed – 8 unplaced

Seven meetings on the Fibresand surface at Southwell have passed since the £1000 barrier was breached which came hot on heels of a £2.979.10 return on Tuesday 31st March.

That dividend came about via a 66/1 winner in a four runner (win only) event which is why I invariably include all runners in win only events because an upset can produce fantastic returns.

This was the case back in March when the other results on the card were anything but outrageous.  Indeed, three of the other five favourites finished in the frame.

If a really hot favourite is involved in a win only event, I will invariably offer a secondary permutation using the market leader as a banker to offset the loss of three losers in the relevant event via my original wager.

On the ‘Hennessy’ front at Newbury on Saturday, I thought I would ‘mark your card’ in terms of the five day acceptors relating to their course records at the Berkshire venue:

2/3--Coneygree

2/3--Smad Place

2/2--Bobs Worth

1/1--Splash Of Ginge

1/2--Fingal Bay

1/1--Benbens

1/1--Ned Stark
