Placepot Pointers

Placepot pointers – Tuesday 9th February

Last year’s corresponding toteplacepot dividend:

2015: £2,868.50 (6 favourites: 1 winner - 2 placed - 3 unplaced)

2.10: I would have to give STORYTALE an each way/toteplacepot chance in this amateur rider event, given the experience of Alex Edwards in the saddle, albeit his five winners have been gained in the NH sector.  Failing that, CLOCK ON TOM comes into the race on a hat trick, whilst others making the overnight short list include GEEAITCH and HENRY SMITH.
Favourite factor: Eight of the last 11 winners of this event have claimed Placepot positions, statistics which include six successful market leaders.

Southwell record of course winners in the first race:

2/9--Geeaitch (Dual C&D winner)

2.45: All five winners to date have carried a minimum burden of 8-13, whilst four and five-year-old have (equally) shared four of the five contests thus far. WEALD OF KENT and INDIRA are the only horses that possess ticks in both boxes and they are the first names on the team sheet accordingly.  Four-year-old MOON ARC might be added to the permutation come sun up.
Favourite factor: Two of the five market leaders have finished in the frame (exact science), figures which include one (11/4) winner).  The biggest priced winner to date was returned at 8/1.

Southwell record of course winners in the second race:

1/5--With Hindsight

1/7--Dark Diamond (C&D winner)

2/6--Weald Of Kent (Dual C&D winner)

2/2--Sir Pitt (C&D winner)

3.15: Three-year-olds have won six of the last nine contests with vintage representatives coming to the gig on a four timer on this occasion.  The ratio will be improved upon as no other vintages are represented on this occasion, with WHITE BULLET and PHANTOM FLIPPER seemingly standing out from the 'short field' crowd this time around.  New readers might like to know that the term 'short field' relates to 5/6/7 runner races in which only the first two horses home qualify from toteplacepot and each way perspectives.  Sir Mark Prescott has his team in great form and with WHITE BULLET rated 17 pounds clear of what looks to be his main rival, Luke Morris should boot another winner home.
Favourite factor: Seven of the 10 favourites during the study period have secured Placepot positions though from a win perspective, market leaders have been beaten at odds of 1/8 and 4/5 in recent years.  That said, five favourites have obliged whereby bookmakers have not had things all their own way.

3.50: Although the bottom two horses in the handicap fail to boast obvious Placepot claims, all five winners have carried a maximum burden of 9-1 to date. Fortunately, it looks as though another three horses will drop into the 'superior' sector of the handicap via jockey claims.  BILLYOAKES is there 'by rights' and will be chanced in such an ordinary event, joined by SIR BILLY WRIGHT and GUISHAN from further up the handicap before claims (hopefully) kick in.
Favourite factor: Four of the five favourites have claimed Placepot positions, statistics which include two winners.

Southwell record of course winners in the fourth race:

1/2--Captain Lars

3/6--Showtime Star (C&D winner x 3)

3/11--Guishan (C&D winner x 3)

4/14--Clubland (Dual C&D winner)

4.20:  Nine of the last 10 winners have scored at a top price of 8/1 and I expect the trend of 'fancied' winners to score via the short listed trio of RUPERT BOY, TOFFEE APPLE and DIVINE TOUCH.  I think the 11/2 quote in the trade press about the latter named Robert Eddery raider will look a little fanciful by the time that the stalls open.
Favourite factor: Seven of the last 10 favourites have reached the frame, statistics which include four winners.

4.50: Seven of the nine winners during the study period have carried a minimum burden of 8-13, which suggests that the bottom two horses in the field could struggle, despite their recent gold and silver medals.  The pick of the top five in the handicap will hopefully prove to be ENGLISHWOMAN, AMY BLAIR and MEMYSELFIE.
Favourite factor: Six of the last 11 markers leaders have claimed Placepot positions via the last nine contests, statistics which include three winners.
