The John Butler-trained Piazon makes it onto The Shortlist today with a useful score of 11, having three sections of green and two of amber.
This Striking Ambition gelding runs in a highly competitive looking five-furlong dash on the all-weather track at Southwell.
Piazon has been in excellent form over the past year or so, with three wins and two second places from his last six races. He was a winner last time out over course and distance and has an extra five pounds to carry today because of that win.
Something else to bear in mind is that Tim Clark takes over the ride today from Darragh Keenan, and his claim is three pounds compared to Keenan's seven, so he is effectively nine pounds worse off than the previous race. He is clearly in good form though so I am still hoping for a big run.
John Butler has a good record with his horses on the all-weather track and with sprinters. On the all-weather, he is 37/264 (14.02%) for 62.38 points and with sprinters, he's 28/201 (13.93%) for 48.13 points with sprinters.
He also has a particularly good record here at Southwell, where his strike rate increases to 18.07% over the past five years with an Impact Value of 1.46.
The Instant Expert report shows how well suited to today's conditions that Piazon is, and it's clear to see why he made The Shortlist, as he far better suited than any of his rivals.
This report also highlights Piazon's wonderful record here at Southwell. He has raced here seven times, finishing second twice and winning the other five, for a level stakes profit of 17.25. All of these races have been within the last year as well.
The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have a decent record, with 22.69% 0f the going on to win the race for level stakes profits of 190.21 and an Impact Value of 1.93.
There appears to be a lot of pace in this race and it is reasonably spread out as well. Razin' Hell is always quickly away and looks the most to be leading early on, but it looks certain to be a frenetic pace regardless.
