Race of the Day

Race of the Day – 19 Dec

Race of the Day - 14:30 Ayr

We start the week off at Ayr for Race of the Day, and this is a three mile handicap hurdle with the ground riding heavy, therefore stamina is going to be tested to the full.

Nicky Richards has been in useful form of late, with five winners from his last 21 runners (23.81%) for a level stakes profit of 9.50. He runs the top weight Conquer Gold here today.

Hartforth is quite an outsider according to the betting, however when looking at the Instant Expert tab on the place setting, he looks nicely suited to today's race conditions. He has three sections of green and two of amber, and is just four pounds higher than for his last victory. If he can find a bit of form, at 28/1 he may prove to be a bit of value. He has been placed three out of four times here at Ayr, so clearly thrives when racing here.

Mango Cap has four sections of green and one of amber, so is one that looks suited today. Importantly he has proven himself on this heavy going, so is another to keep an eye on.

Given the conditions here today, the pace of the race could prove crucial. There appears to be a lot of runners that like to be very handy, so it looks like they will be going plenty fast enough for how heavy things are out there. If this is to be the case, it will set it up nicely for those that stay at least this far, and preferably we'd want a horse that stays at least an extra furlong.

Harforth has won over two furlongs further on heavy going previously, which makes him even more interesting at his price. I would not be surprised to see Craig Whillans head straight to the front of the pack and make this a real test, by trying to make all.
