Race of the Day - 13:30 Sandown

The Trainer Snippets report highlights how well John Butler does with horses returning from a break of over 60 days. From 66 runners he's had 13 winners (19.70%) and 20 places (30.30%) for level stakes profits of 131.25 and 151.74 respectively. This has also produced an Impact Value of 2.05, meaning he is more than twice as likely as average to have the winner.

Piazon excellent latest form is a little misleading as it is all from the all weather at Southwell. However, he has form on turf from a few years ago and is at home on the softer going.

He has slipped down the handicap on turf and is now a full eight pounds lower than for his last win on it, so if the break has helped, he could play a part here today. He also has the claimer Darragh Keenan taking off a further seven pounds, so it appears he is nicely weighted if able to reproduce old form.

If we expand the trainer form by clicking the black trainer icon on the racecard we can see that as well as having good form with horses returning from a break, Butler has a decent record with sprinters. His strike rate with sprinters is 2% higher than his overall record and it is showing a good Impact Value.

The lack of green sections on the Instant Expert report shows that this race may not take much winning as it doesn't look like having too much quality in it.

Piazon has one section and green and three of amber when on the 'Place' setting, so he is at least reasonably well suited to today's conditions.

The Pace report shows that early leaders here over this distance have a great record with 20.80% of them winning the race for a level stakes profit of 35.84.

Piazon is usually quite prominent early on and as there doesn't appear to be too much real pace in the race there is a good chance Keenan will find himself in a handy position through the first furlong or so. If this does happen I am hoping that he is good enough to hold on for at least a place, and at around 14/1, I am happy to take that chance.
