Race of the Day - 19:30 Wolverhampton
It's a claiming stakes on the all weather at Wolverhampton for today's Race of the Day, being run over nine furlongs. There is just a small field of six, but it does look quite competitive between at least four of them.
The current favourite is Retrieve, who has Adam Kirby on board. Kirby has been in very good form over the past month, and he also has excellent course form. He is renowned for excelling on the all weather tracks, and his record here over the last year is 36 winners (26.09%) and 71 places (51.45%) from 138 runners, for level stakes profits of 6.29 and 0.49 respectively.
Marco Botti, who trains Regarde Moi, has a superb record here at Wolverhampton with his runners. For the last five years he's had 80 winners and 184 places from 393 runners, producing level stakes profits of 16.40 and 21.74.
The Instant Expert report is free to all users for every race on a Thursday, and here it highlights how well suited Marshgate Lane is by today's racing conditions. He has a nice full line of green, and from quite a good sample of races as well. He clearly likes racing at the course as he is 2/4 when running here, so I expect a very bold showing from him today.
From looking at the Pace tab we can see that leaders here over this distance do have the best record, but it isn't by a big margin. Just over 15% of them go on to win the race, and with such a small field, it perhaps shouldn't have a huge bearing on your selection.
Regarde Moi and Modernism are both usually very handy in their races, and look likely to be the two to battle it out for the lead early on. It will be interesting to see how much pace their is in the race given the field size, and it could turn into quite a tactical affair.
