Race of the Day

Race of the Day – 23 May

Race of the Day - 20:05 Huntingdon

This is a three mile and one furlong handicap hurdle on good ground at Huntingdon.

Sebastian Beach is at the top of the handicap, and his trainer Jonjo O'Neill, has useful long term form here at Huntingdon. You can see this by the green C1 and C5 below his name, and if you click on the black trainer icon below the horses name, it will show you the detail behind it. Over the past five years he's had 28 winners (24.78%) from 113 runners, for a level stakes profit of 5.63.

Midnight Monty won over course and distance last time out, and his trainer Tim Lacey, has a good record with last time out winners, and an excellent record with his hurdlers.

The Shortlist is available to all users on a Tuesday, and Midnight Monty comes out with a good score of 11. He has four sections of green and just the one of red, which is for the field size. He has actually won twice in comparable fields so it is not something that would worry me at all.

When looking at the Instant Expert report it is clear to see why Midnight Monty has made The Shortlist. He is clearly a lot better suited to today's conditions than the rest of the field, and if he can take the five pound rise in the weights that he received for winning in April, he will be very tough to beat. He is also the only runner in the field to have won here at Huntingdon previously.

Ballyheigue Bay is next best on this report, with one section of green and three of amber.

The Pace report shows that there doesn't appear to be any real bias to do with the pace of the race over this distance, as all four categories are bunched closely together.

What does appear very likely is that Ballyheigue Bay, with Richard Johnson on board, will be taking them along through the first part of the race, as he is a confirmed front runner. He was good enough to make all two races ago, and it will be interesting to see if he can do the same here, with an extra seven pounds to carry.
