Race of the Day - 19:40 Brighton

The Shortlist is the report that is available to all registered users on a Tuesday, and Pour La Victoire makes it on to there at Brighton today with a score of 11, having three sections of green and two of amber.

He runs in a wide open looking handicap over a mile and is currently priced around 5/1.

Pour La Victoire has been running consistently over the winter without being able to get his head in front. He has been placed four times in his last five races, all of which were on the all-weather courses.

He has a better strike rate on the turf and returns to a course that he's won five times at, and races from an attractive mark.

Trainer Tony Carroll has been in excellent form recently. Over the past 30 days, he's had seven winners (26.92%) and 11 places (42.31%) from 26 runners, for level stakes profits of 28.50 and 30.08 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.55.

He also has a good long-term record here at Brighton. Over the past five years, he's had 25 winners (16.45%) and 67 places (44.08%) from 152 runners, for level stakes profits of 18.85 and 30.15 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.25.

Jockey George Downing also has a good record at this course. Over the past five years, he's had ten winners (14.93%) and 28 places (41.79%) from 67 runners, for level stakes profits of 14.67 and 20.44 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.13.

The Instant Expert report confirms the good showing of Pour La Victoire, and he looks comfortably more suited to today's conditions than a lot of his rivals. He has also dropped to a mark that is six pounds lower than for his last victory, therefore, a return to turf from an attractive mark gives him a good chance.

The Pace report shows that prominent runners have the best record here over this distance, with 14.75% of them winning the race, for a level stakes profit of 40.50.

Shifting Star appears likely to be the early leader as he is a confirmed front-runner, whilst Pour La Victoire is often quite sluggish leaving the stalls so is likely to be towards the rear and waited with.
