Musical Terms makes in onto The Shortlist today with four sections of green and a good score of 12. He hasn't raced in a field of this size before, hence the grey section, but apart from that looks extremely well suited to today's conditions.
Musical Terms has had five races to date (all this year) and hasn't finished outside of the first four, winning his last two. He won over course and distance in a similar class handicap last time out and races from just a three pound higher mark here today. Ryan Moore again takes the ride and a repeat of that performance should see him go close.
When looking at the trainer snippets we can see that William Haggas has an excellent record with his runners on the all-weather courses. His strike rate is over 4% higher than his overall average and he has an Impact Value of 2.71 with these runners.
Over the past year he has a quite brilliant record here at Chelmsford, having 13 winners (39.39) and 19 places (57.58%) from 33 runners, for level stakes profits of 24.20 and 25.67 respectively, and an Impact Value of 3.63.
Ryan Moore has been in good form recently and also has a super record at this course. Over the past year, he's had 20 winners (46.51%) and 21 places (48.84%) for level stakes profits of 29.27 and 20.50 respectively. This has also produced an Impact Value of 4.29, meaning he is more than four times more likely than average to have the winner.
The Instant Expert report highlights how well suited Musical Terms is to today's conditions, and it also shows that there are not many other sections of green in a quite a large field, backing up the reason he made it onto The Shortlist.
Early leaders here over this distance have a great record, with 19.50% of them going on to win the race for a level stakes profit of 41.70.
There appears to be quite a lot of early pace in the race and it looks like there may be several horses vying for the early lead.
Musical Terms usually races in mid-division and I expect the same to happen here today. I think Moore will be happy for them to take each other on up front and will wait until they enter the final couple of furlongs before making his move, where I am hoping he will again have enough to be able to snatch the race late on.
